Graveyard Train & guests play Mojos Bar Tuesday coming. Pick up a double pass!
Four Tet has new album Pink out in the world. Check the tune Lion from this album while you're with us!
Lyndon Blue writes up the Turkish adventures that went down at Geisha Bar as a part of the Daisuki: Innerspace night. Carefully avoiding describing his own set (haha) he takes us to the performances of Diger Rokwell & Mei Saraswati.
Tahlia Palmer got her name on the door thru My Disco for Shellac's performance in Melbourne. She shook Steve Albini's hand & it was a harrowing star struck experience for her (not Albini).
Amber Fresh caught The Chemist's performance at Fat Shan's on the weekend - she loved it is just a speck of how she felt.
Starting last night at the Blue Room Theatre, Eve is running until November 10. Christopher Isaacs gives a little bit more info about the production! article here
Graveyard Train, Brothers Grim & Ruby Boots play Mojos Bar, Tuesday, October 30. This Rock-It side show will be an absolute cracker. First in here picks up a double pass!

Lyndon Blue: live reviews
DAISUKI PRESENTS "TURKISH DELIGHT" @ GEISHA BAR, SUNDAY OCTOBER 21
Here’s a delightful fact: the entrance to the Geisha Bar in Northbridge is not merely a door. It’s a wormhole. A shortcut through spacetime. A really handy way to save on airfares. Of course, a wormhole’s not as predictable as Qantas, so you take a bit of a gamble and sometimes end up in a zoo’s dangerous reptiles enclosure. But lately, the gamble’s been paying off. The weekend has unfurled, punctuated with spectacular hip-hop/rnb from Seattle, hazy parties, warm days, cool lagers. But this is one of those Sunday evenings that comes around and you’re not quite done yet: you want to squeeze out every last drop of weekend-juice.

tahlia palmer: steady eye
The Shellac and Steve Albini Ramble
In last week’s column I mentioned that I’m not very good with the idea of meeting people who’s work and careers I admire. By this I mean that I’m terrified at the prospect of meeting musicians, artists, actors and film makers I like, especially if they’re from overseas. A few years ago I turned down the opportunity to photograph The Black Lips because I was so shit scared of… I don’t know what. Them. Myself. Failure. Success. For no reason. Jesus Tahlia, it’s just a guy/girl with a guitar/paint brush/camera, they’re juuuuust the same as anyone else. But my brain goes on bizarre tangents based on shaking hands with a vaguely famous person that inevitably lead me towards many roads that I’m scared to embark on, and all in all I end up feeling like a weird neurotic mess. So in my adult years...

The Chemist with guests Kucka, Marc Early, Phil Stroud & Brett Smith at Fat Shans, Saturday, October 20
My friends and I built a majamaja. This was after the invasion of Australia, and before the end of the world. Sometime in between then. We built it with big sticks, littler sticks, and lots and lots of bark.

no lights no lycra
at the banks reserve pavilion, perth
A dance night based on abandoning self-consciousness and professionalism through no lights and no talking as you bust a move, NLNL has finally hit Perth after incarnations across the Eastern States.
Whilst flirting and showing off are moves that are sacrificed, what emerges is self-confidence invested within the purity of dancing as well as a killer work-out to boot. Not to mention the uplifting sight of a town hall filled with shadowy apparitions shifting shapes to Getting Jiggy With It.
$5 from 7pm.
Ed: NLNL is on hiatus until next month when it moves to City Farm. But, there is an installment in Freo if you can't wait. Every Tuesday from 7:55pm, Scots Church, cnr South Tce & Parry St.

blue beat special
at defectors bar, mt lawley
Defector's transports you back to the early 60s for a taste of the flip side of swinging London. DJs at West Indian blues parties were playing the records that were shaking up Kingston... US RnB and JA-style shuffle boogies and SKA - this was music to dance to - and the more adventurous white kids were soon getting clued up to it.
Tonight, you can join the party and dig the 60s sounds of underground London... BLUE BEAT SPECIAL! Dress sharp and bring your dancing shoes for a knocked out dose of rhythm & blues, ska, soul, mod jazz, rocksteady and more, brought to you by our guest DJs Razor Jack (Sunday Record Hop) and Lady Carla.
$10 Blue Beat Cocktail Specials will be on the menu all night long.

Graveyard Train are supported by BROTHERS GRIM & RUBY BOOTS.
Graveyard Train are a six piece collective from Melbourne Australia. The initial idea was for six men to sing in baritone, like men, about Werewolves, Vampires, Ghosts and the like over frenetic foot stomping country music. Six men playing men’s instruments just as men were born to do. It was a whacky idea, it worked, things moved quickly and the band now boasts a fan base right across the world.
Presales are available thru oztix.com.au for $20+bf.
Tickets are available at the door from 8pm for $25.

ONGOING theatre, exhibitions, aarrrght!
edge of centre
at heathcote museum & gallery, applecross
An exhibition by Anne Duff and Jane King.
Exhibition runs from Saturday, 29 September to Sunday, 4 November 2012.
Anne Duff and Jane King have explored the past life of a small corner shop on the city fringe. They peered through the keyhole to another time; when the world was bigger and slower, when old social networks were localised, like single, fragile spider webs stretching delicately out toward each other, connecting thinly, at random.
In this technological age it is no longer fantasy to be able to see through walls. New radar technology has been developed that will allow the viewer to peer through solid surfaces in real time with nothing more than a mobile phone.

casey ayres: tunc
at ok gallery, northbridge
Exhibition runs: 18th October - 18th November 2012.
Tunc - a clipping from a Latin phrase meaning ‘then’ and a pointed anagram –continues Casey Ayres’ investigation into beauty and mythology, extending his photographic practice into a series of repurposed, sculptural ‘props’. Ayres’ draws an uneasy line between autobiography and fiction, altering and documenting his immediate surroundings as a set pursuant of a heightened, cinematic narrative following a decline into unwarranted violence and dangerous nostalgia.

ghosts
at the subiaco arts centre, subiaco
GHOSTS is a scathing commentary on 19th Century morality. Has morality changed since GHOSTS was first staged in 1882? Are people of today any different to the characters of this play? Back then, things like sexually transmitted diseases and euthanasia were definitely scandalous taboo topics! If contemporary critics of the time said things like: “...Morbid, unhealthy and disgusting... An open drain: a loathsome sore unbandaged... Nauseating and menacing... As foul and filthy a concoction as has ever been allowed to disgrace the boards of an English theatre...” then why would it be worth watching?
Well, it’s a little bit naughty... And because like any good theatre, this play has pithy writing and dramatic arc. Although it’s plot is simply that it examines a town's tribute to a prominent citizen and his widow's attempts to come to terms with the real truth of the man's life, it’s characters are layered with questions and fears and
desires that any person of today could relate to, one way or another. Under the direction of the well-experienced Stephen Lee, GHOSTS is sure to be an intriguing journey into questioning our own morality. And it’s a change from Shakespeare!
SEASON DETAILS:
7:30pm, Wednesday 24 October to Saturday 27 October, 2012
7:30pm, Tuesday 30 October to Saturday 3 November, 2012
