South East Bridge News Update
June 2015

Welcome to the latest edition of the South East Bridge enews.

This month, we have highlights from our Horizon 20:20 project that took place with schools across Hampshire, as well as Flow Associates report on digital cultural learning, and information on the new Arts and Commissioning Toolkit, launched on 23rd June at the Gulbenkian in Canterbury. We are also pleased to welcome three new staff members to our team - to find out more about them and the work they'll be involved in at Artswork, see the links below.

New Arts and Commissioning Toolkit launches

A new animated commissioning toolkit was launched on Tuesday 23rd June at the Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury. The event was well attended and received, with over 100 delegates from Kent, London and the South East.

Artswork and Royal Opera House Bridge have been working with Public Health and Arts and Culture service partners at Kent County Council since 2012 on a cultural commissioning programme designed to support the arts sector to become commission-ready.

Horizon 20:20 report published

With investment from Artswork, over 70 students across the four Hampshire Education Centres were engaged in Horizon 20:20 arts activities. Their art teachers each had four continuing professional development days and ongoing support from the Hampshire Cultural Trust project manager.

The programme has offered a sense of sustainability, with activity in all four centres supported by Hampshire Cultural Trust as part of their ongoing commitment to work with the inclusion service, and the heads of the centres committing further budgets to continue the work.

Miss Represented - Home:Life | 23-25 July | Brighton Dome

Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival’s Miss Represented project operates as an arts collective working with vulnerable young women who are navigating difficult life situations and are considered ‘at risk’. Using the arts as a vehicle for self expression and investigating relevant themes and topics, Miss Represented creates a safe environment to deliver tailor-made projects resulting in exhibitions, events and performances of high artistic quality.

Since 2014, Miss Represented has been a part of Artswork's Partnership Investment programme, Beating the Odds, delivered in partnership with Brighton Dome and Festival, Audio Active Brighton and Hove Youth Offending Service and NEET youth agencies across the city.

Background to digital cultural learning in the UK: Flow Associates report published

"Our role as evaluators for the Extending Digital Practice project was to take a bird’s eye view over the three cluster projects, to produce a learning resource for wider dissemination to the Cultural, Schools and Digital sectors."

Artsmark Update

Following changes to the educational landscape and as evidence of the impact of high quality cultural education grows, the Arts Council is working with school leaders and specialist art teachers to update and refresh Artsmark.

From September 2015, Artsmark will encourage and support schools to celebrate the strengths in their arts and culture provision, and to celebrate the impact of their arts and culture activities on their community.
