Effective today, the custodial staff will work from 7:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Friday. The change was made to allow custodians to work primarily after students have left campus.
If you have a spill or something that requires immediate custodial attention between 5 and 7:30 p.m., please call 360-690-1527 and Public Safety will respond.
Vancouver student wins MLK Service Award
For altruism, community service, efforts to advance diversity and educational commitment to inclusion, Shain Wright, a senior majoring in human development and public affairs, will receive the Martin Luther King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award. Shain will be recognized at WSU Pullman’s annual MLK Community Celebration Jan. 22. The event will be streamed live to campus at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Firstenburg Student Commons.
Shain works as a team leader in the Student
Diversity Center, provides trans-ally training to staff, was the lead organizer for V-Day and co-chair for the 2014 Gender Neutral Bathroom Week. Off campus Shain volunteers for Triple Point, an organization that provides a safe place for LGBTQA youth in Southwest Washington.
Remind students to file the FAFSA
Please encourage students to attend FAFSA Fest to get help filing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Firstenburg Student Commons, financial aid experts will be on hand to help students file. WSU Vancouver encourages students to file the FAFSA by Feb. 1.

The Salmon Creek Journal prose, poetry, visual and performing art submission deadline for students, staff, faculty and alumni has been extended to 5 p.m. Jan. 30. Submit online.

Six award-winning writers will talk about their careers on campus this spring
Six Portland writers will discuss the successes and challenges of the creative life as part of the Professional Writers Series this spring.
Free and open to the public, the presentations will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays between Feb. 3 and April 21 in the Library, Room 240. There will be an opening reception at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Writing Center in the Library, Room 203.
The six writers have published a range of genres, from literary novels to thrillers, biographies to poetry. The series is designed to provide insights into the writing process and the ways authors interact both creatively and commercially with other writers, editors, publishers and designers.

Nominations open for 2015 Women of Distinction
Women of Distinction celebrates Women’s History Month and honors women who inspire, mentor and empower others. Nominees and recipients of the Distinguished Woman of the Year will be honored at an event on March 26. Women will be honored in three categories: WSU Vancouver student, community member (WSU or non-WSU affiliated) and high school student. Nominations will be accepted online
through Feb. 22.
