Hi there,

There’s been a lot of talk about social media platform providers and, more specifically, how to keep them in line. It’s a huge challenge to stop the platforms being used for nefarious reasons – including the live-streaming of the Christchurch attacks and the feral proliferation of uncensored misinformation, all the while collecting reams of data, often without permission, that enables control of digital advertising revenues and influences democratic processes.

New Zealand Privacy Commissioner John Edwards in a recent speech outlined some of the issues faced by countries grappling with creating policies to regulate the platforms. While his blunt address in Sydney didn’t offer up any solutions, it certainly provided food for thought – and put the social media ‘oligarchs’ on notice.

In other news:

  • Govt looks to attract ‘highly skilled’ tech recruits with new visa
  • Public clouds compared – it’s all about location, location, location
  • From DX to workforce transformation
  • Sydney and Melbourne winners for startups – but still room for improvement

And we take a look at how a 'dentistry-as-a-service' has enabled Maven Dental Group to up its personalisation and customer service, while bolstering cross selling and upselling and reducing manual processes.

Enjoy the read,
