NSF International and ACS Green Chemistry Institute Develop Greener Chemicals and Processes Information Standard

NSF International and the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute recently announced that they have developed a new American National Standard that creates a harmonized way to document the environmental and human health hazards associated with chemical products and their manufacturing processes. The new standard, NSF/GCI/ANSI 355 Greener Chemicals and Processes Information Standard, establishes standardized criteria for chemicals and processes to help chemical manufacturers and formulators compare the hazards and process impacts of different chemical products. The new standard outlines a framework for chemical manufacturers to use to develop a NSF/GCI/ANSI 355 report, which will be certified by NSF International, to provide information to their customers throughout the supply chain. You can find more information about the standard, as well as a sample report, on the NSF website.

Right off the bat, we were challenged to address the question, “What Is Sustainable Innovation?” Some persistent themes in the dialogues included how to stimulate creativity and innovation in corporate culture, how to avoid letting everyday work crowd out new thinking, and how to support it financially. All are urgent challenges to ensure innovation, but they don’t answer the original question: What is it? Read More
