Newsletter - Monday 14 December 2015

With Christmas approaching, it is timely to note that all non-essential Council services will be closed from Christmas Day and reopen on 4 January 2016. This includes Council Customer Service Centres, art galleries, libraries and the Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC). RPAC tickets can still be purchased online during the closure.

Council wants road infrastructure fast-track partnership

Council has supported my recommendation to consider funding models and partnerships to present to state government, that will bring forward much needed road and transport infrastructure that is their responsibility within Redland City.

This could include financing options and partnering with state government and the private sector, with the aim of fast-tracking construction of priority state-controlled road infrastructure in the city.

Council's strong 10-year financial outlook continues

More jobs returned to Redlanders in Thornlands Integrated Employment Area

Council has supported my Mayoral minute to investigate the possibility of an Integrated Employment Area at Thornlands. This will include reviewing the scope and outcomes of previous planning studies of the area, considering emerging industry and employment opportunities and identifying infrastructure to support an Integrated Employment Area.

Council supports Cleveland Community Hub

Council has endorsed plans for a new Cleveland Community Hub that would support the Redlands’ ageing population and those with disabilities, and agreed to apply for Federal funding towards its construction.  Council has committed to $135,000 in this year’s budget and in-principle agreement for a capital budget bid in 2017-18.

Council Election 2016

A reminder that our local Council election is only about three months away on Saturday 19 March 2016.  I encourage you to ask questions of all candidates and affiliated lobby groups, including getting them to provide factual information to support their statements rather than accepting their unsubstantated claims that deliver no realistic alternative.  The community deserves results not rhetoric.

In my last survey the majority of residents told me they thought the Redlands was heading in the right direction, so it is vitally important that the next mayor has a cohesive and majority Council to keep Redlands on track.

More information about the Council election can be found here.

Visitor experience to be enhanced

Council has endorsed the Bayview Conservation Area (BCA) Trails Facility Concept and Development Plan. Supporting the Enhancing Visitors Experience Program, this plan is a blueprint for conserving Bayview’s unique environmental values while creating an outdoor recreational trail destination.
