April 2020 Update

Scholarships for the 2021 school year

Spring is usually the moment when school is wrapping up and both teachers and soon-to-be graduates are celebrating.

In this unprecedented moment in time, however, we recognize that this is a tough time for both. Even though we are unable to celebrate in the same way – together, at large gatherings and in classrooms – it’s still time to think forward to next year.

The Lambton Federation of Agriculture will be offering ten scholarships this year for the 2021 school year, for both college and university students.

For a list of the scholarships and their individual criteria, please see the LFA Website at https://lambtonfederation.ca/scholarships/

Agricultural Employment and Financial Issues

OFA has teamed up with CAHRC (Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council) and is continuing to host webinars to support farm employers during COVID-19 with two more webinars to be held the week of April 27th. You can find more information here.

The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $1 million in new funding through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) to connect workers with in-demand jobs in the agri-food sector to keep the nation's supply chains strong and store shelves stocked during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program opened April 17 and will be on a first come, first serve basis. More details on it can be found here.

Click through for a Guide to Operating your Essential Farm Business during COVID-19 from the OFA.

The OFA has also prepared a summary of the federal and provincial announcements and existing government programs that may offer some relief to farm businesses here:
