Research

As a partner with Roger Dudley and the Institute of Church Ministry. CYE will be featuring research in the area of youth and young adult ministry.
Compiled data from a North American Division survey done in 2009 found:
-
15% of members indicate they have a family member attending a "public college/university. This number could include a spouse as well.
-
14% had a family member in public elementary school.
-
10% had a family member in a public high school.
-
18% had a family member serving in the military.
-
12% had a family member in prison.
One of the reasons why the school percentages are so small is because only about 20% - 25% of church members have children of the appropriate age. The majority of our church members are too old or too young to have children in school.
We have 1.3 million members in the NAD. 15% of that is 195,000. However, we have to make some allowance for spouses who are both members and have one child in school. Therefore, a conservative estimate would be that no more than 100,000 young adults from Adventist families are attending a public college/university. That is a lot of people!

Airfare Prices Are Increasing: According to Rick Seaney, CEO of FareCompare.com, airfares are likely to be 10% - 15% higher than last year. Some of the country's top airfair experts have given the following advice:
-
Old Rule: Shop one of the major online travel agencies, like Expedia or Orbitz.
-
New Rule: Instead, start your search with Kayak.com, Fly.com, and TripAdvisor.com, metasearch engines that aggregate fares from a number of sources and direct you to sites where you can buy them.
