This Valentine's Day (and beyond!),
love is more important than ever.
As our founder El Costa said,
"LOVE. This is where it begins and everything grows from there."
Support our school's continued commitment to ensuring a safe, inclusive community that honors diversity, respects the rights of all, and is unflinching in our mandate to inspire children to live well on this planet, with compassion for humankind, and care for the environment they inhabit.
Make us your Valentine with a gift today and help us carry forward the Breakwater experience.
What is a pulse survey? Designed to take a snapshot of customer opinions, this is a short, quick measure to gain feedback and broad insight that will help us target key areas most important to YOU and will inform the design of a broader more comprehensive survey down the road. PLEASE PLEASE take a minute to fill this one out. Tell us what you think! Your input is invaluable. Have more to say? Meet with David Sullivan and members of the administration on February 13 at 3:30pm for an informal 'Fireside Chat'.

STEPPING UP?
TIME MACHINE TO NEXT YEAR'S CLASSROOM
|
Save the date for this year's Step Up Night, Thursday, March 1 and watch for your 2018/2019 enrollment contract in the mail this month. Curious what your rising student's grade level will be like? In addition to Step Up Night, we invite you to schedule a visit to observe in any of our classrooms. Breakwater’s toddler through eighth grade structure is among our greatest assets, and we'd welcome the opportunity to show it off.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC GEOGRAPHY BEE
|
Congratulations to Sol Thomas, second place, and Zeke Appel, this year's school champion, and to all the amazing students who participated in this year's Geography Bee! Breakwater has participated in the National Geographic Geo Bee for many years. Not only is this an opportunity for the finalist to go on and compete with others, but a chance for students to challenge themselves. Competing in front of peers on a stage can be intimidating. We acknowledge how brave all of our competitors are to participate and recognize the Geo Bee is a great lesson in being gracious and proud in victory and in defeat.

MATHEMATICS IN FIRST AND SECOND GRADE
|
Student 1: My mother was in the Civil War.
Student 2: No, she couldn’t have been in the Civil War.
Student 1: Well she didn’t fight in the Civil War, she just helped.
Student 2: [to the teacher] How long ago was the Civil War?
Teacher: About 155 years ago.
Student 2: I don’t think your mother could have been in the Civil War. But maybe if she is an older mother. But, how much older? Find out how our teachers use “teachable moments” like these as well as structured, thoughtfully pre-planned activities to optimize math education.
