Nepal: Our AOGE Friends Urgently Need Our Help!

July 10, 2020

If you’re reading this, you have either participated in an outreach with Hope Force International and Apple of God's Eyes (AOGE) Nepal, or you have supported the ministry financially.  For those of us who’ve had the privilege and honor of firsthand experience, you need no convincing as to the worthiness and excellence of the life-changing ministry that occurs in the lives of rescued children.

Due to the complications arising from Covid-19, the cost of eggs and chicken continue to skyrocket.

In The Himalayan Times, Krishna Shrestha, a chicken seller from Jorpati, stated that production of chicken in the market has declined due to chicken being in short supply. “Poultry farms and egg factories are not operating in a full-fledged manner as the number of workers has decreased due to the coronavirus pandemic,” he said, adding, “Hatcheries have reduced production which has subsequently led to the dramatic increase in the price of chicken.” He added that farmers have even stopped producing chicks.   As a result, securing food for the children that live in AOGE's 5 homes is becoming increasingly more difficult.

In an effort to mitigate against the threat this represents to food security for the children, AOGE seeks to purchase a surplus of chicken (approx. 1 ton U.S.) before the prices rise further, which will supply their 5 homes for the next four months.   In so doing, they are confronted with a secondary need — that of two freezers to keep the purchased meat. These freezers will serve the ministry in multiple ways — both now and into the future.

THE URGENT NEEDS:

• 1 ton of Chicken  = $3,300
• (2) Freezers = $1,250

Silvio Silva, AOGE’s Director, has indicated these two things listed above are urgent, but reluctantly also alerted us to the additional, pressing needs of Homes 1 & 5. Kitchens are in need of repair, furnishings need replacing and miscellaneous maintenance is lagging. The financial impact of Covid-19 stemming from the cancellation of all teams since the outbreak is taking its toll.  This represents an additional $4,000 need.

We felt that you would want to be made aware of these needs and ask that you prayerfully consider how or if you can/should participate by making a financial donation. If you can’t give, please join us in praying for our friends and for God’s provision.

In closing, please continue to join us in prayer for Nepal and the world as the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic continues.
