Highlight: Metcalf Institute’s Free Science Communication Workshop

Space is Limited - Register Today to Reserve Your Seat at Metcalf Institute’s Free Science Communication Workshop: Writing for Influential Audiences

Metcalf Institute will host a workshop to help Rhode Island science graduate students, faculty, post docs, and research staff build the skills and confidence to write for public audiences. Whether you are preparing a manuscript for publication, a grant proposal, or a release for the news media, your writing for expert and non-expert audiences must be compelling, concise, and jargon-free. The daylong workshop will provide basic tips on how to improve writing skills and translate complex scientific information into short narratives for non-expert audiences.

News releases and opinion pieces for news outlets are important ways to publicize research and its significance and offer the potential to reach important audiences such as funders, policy makers, and voters. Workshop participants will learn how to pique the interest of these key local, regional, and national audiences.

The workshop is open to natural and social science faculty, research staff, graduate students, and postdocs from all Rhode Island colleges and universities. Click here to learn more and to register to attend.

Wednesday, July 20, 10 - 4:30 PM (lunch is included)
URI Feinstein Campus, 80 Washington Street, Providence
