Meet The Candidates on July 24th!

Our "Meet the Candidates" meetings have been a great success.    We really appreciate the candidates taking their time to come!  A big thank you to all our members who are supporting these meetings.  This is a great way to show that we are an active group, interested in electing the best people for each position.  We will be meeting twice a month up until the election (the second and fourth Thursdays).  Each time will feature candidates for both counties.  We have ordered a new sound system and it should be hooked up and ready to go on July 24th.  We appreciate everyone who helped with our recent fundraiser - this gave us the ability to purchase the new system among other things.

We will be recommending candidates after our August 14th meeting.  WE WANT YOUR INPUT!  There will be contact information for our board members on the back table at our meetings - please call one or more of us and let us know what you think.

The candidates that are scheduled for July 24th are:

Columbia County:

Rusty DePratter - County Commission District 2

Allison Scott - School Board District 1

Suwannee County:

Kin Weaver - County Commission - District 4

State House of Representatives - District 10:

Barbara Prince (write-in candidate)

Our next meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24th - why not go ahead and mark your calendars?  We meet at the Jackie Taylor Building on the corner of Birley Ave. and U. S. 90 approx. 3 miles west of the I-75 interchange.  (128 SW Birley Ave.)  For more information call  John  (386) 935-1705 or Sharon (386) 935-0821.

Not Interested in Politics?

Karena Bowers Morrison wrote this.  It is in this edition of the American Patriot News but I wanted to include it in this newsletter.  Please share it with someone who thinks there is nothing they can do!

For my friends who 'don't *do* politics'... please reconsider
your choice. It doesn't take much to get involved. Really.
You don't need to take it to the level that I have committed
to, that is something that I'd never expect of anyone but
myself. It's my choice.
However, here are a few things that you can do and that
will make a big difference in how your family is
represented by our elected officials.
1) Educate yourself about the issues and decide on a few
that are very important to your family and your community.
2) Educate yourself about all of the candidate’s views on
those issues and decide who best represents those views.
This can be done easily by attending candidate forums. In
person forums are better representative of the candidates'
views and how they personally interact with their
community *before* they are elected.
3) Reach out to those candidates who are asking for either
a few hours of your time or a few dollars of your family
budget and see what their needs are in their campaign.
4) Decide how much time or money that your family is
able to afford to donate to what is needed to help spread the
message of the candidate(s) who will represent your issues
the best while they are serving in elected office.
5) Contact the campaign(s) and offer your assistance.
Much of what is needed by a campaign can be fun, and you
will also have the opportunity to be inspired by helping
your neighbors learn more about the candidate(s) who have
inspired you to get involved.
This may sound like too much work or you may not
recognize that the few dollars or few hours that you are
able to spare will make a difference in a campaign.
Understand that your family's few hours or few dollars
combined with many others is *MUCH* more powerful
than the corporate special interests who all too often
bankroll crony candidates for the sole purpose of retaining
the power over you and your family's lives.
Freedom comes with a cost. Please stand with the
candidates who have chosen to sacrifice so much of their
own family time and spare funds to take a stand with you
and your community. Understand that shared sacrifice now
(in time or treasure) will be paid back many fold... but it
can't happen until we all stand united, become no longer
silent and speak with our volunteer time or our spare
change.

Many thanks to Karena for letting me share this!

Concerned Veterans for America

We are working with Concerned Veterans for America to reach out to veterans on the issues that are affecting them (and all of us).  Our next session will be Tuesday, August 19th at the Columbia County Library (downtown) from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.  (Chick F-il-a will be served at 5:30, we will begin calling at 6:00 p.m.)  If you can help with this, please call John at 386-935-1705.

We really appreciate the people who have been helping with the phone banking!  Concerned Veterans has taken an ad out in the American Patriot News - this will help defray some of the expenses of printing the paper.

Concerned Veterans for America is doing a Defend Freedom Summer Tour and will be in Florida on the 24th and 25th.  For more information on this go to:  CVA-Summer Tour

Common Core Updates

There are only a few opportunities in life to make a real difference by standing up for what you believe in.

The next one is coming on July 22nd at the Regal 14 theater in Gainesville.

Glenn Beck and Fathom Events invite you to your local movie theatre to experience a live national night of action against Common Core. WE WILL NOT CONFORM is a chance for anyone who’s tired of sitting idly by as the federal government continues its takeover of our schools to come together and do something about it.

WE WILL NOT CONFORM isn’t a typical show, it’s an interactive experience where theatregoers will work with experts like Michelle Malkin, David Barton and others in pursuit of real, tangible strategies to wake up our friends and neighbors and make our voices heard. This isn’t an evening about observing, it’s a chance to learn, share and engage with people as frustrated and motivated as you are. By the end of the night, the brainpower, experience, and passion of thousands of people from around the country will be captured in a comprehensive, unified plan of action distributed to all participants.

To Common Core supporters who thought they would win through silence, this night will be a very loud wake-up call. If you are sick of the endless rhetoric, futile debates, and useless advice about changing the system at the ballot box, then WE WILL NOT CONFORM is the event you’ve been waiting for.  For more information on this event, go to:  http://www.glennbeck.com/2014/05/29/on-july-22nd-we-will-not-conform/

Florida Eagle Forum sent out an alert on Common Core:

"Setting the Record Straight About Common Core"

Politicians are being deceptive by communicating to the public and sending out tax payer mail that Florida no longer has Common Core Standards.

Mail pieces are being sent out across the State using taxpayers money coming from legislators that do not have a candidate running against them this term.  These mail pieces are inferring that Florida has eliminated Common Core during the past legislative session. This is simply not true. The Common Core agreement is in full force in the State of Florida.  Politicians are intentionally misleading the voters of Florida. I want to clarify a few of the Bills that passed this legislative session:  To read more about this go to:  http://us5.campaign-archive2.com/?u=bbe74ce37269a39df8a76b286&id=b4855b71cf&e=d21250b009

A CALL TO ACTION:

Call the Governors Office at (850) 717-9337 •Ask the Governor to repeal the Common Core in the State of Florida.
•Reinstate the previous Sunshine State Standards until we are able to truly develop our own.
•Repeal the contract with America Institute for Research (AIR) and hold those accountable for contracting with this type of organization.

This is such an important issue that we have to stay on top of!
