Today it's legacies continue to shape our society. Part of the Center for the Study of Slavery & Justice's (CSSJ) mission is a public humanities program around the history of racial slavery and its legacies. The Center's vision is to continuously improve upon a model of public humanities practice that values community expertise. At the core of the partnerships is a set of projects which seek to develop a set of practices that expands the conception of public humanities. Central to these is a model of participatory exchange of knowledge. This panel will feature faculty, staff, a graduate student, and an alumnae of the CSSJ. Through a discussion style format, panelists will help to illustrate the diverse ways in which a public humanities center at a University can effectively convene inclusive programs. While you are at the Center you can learn about student opportunities at the CSSJ, view the exhibit on display in our gallery, Maker Unknown? Material Objects & the Enslaved, and a stunning glass wall art piece Rising to Freedom, a symbolic slave garden.
