Backing UK Manufacturing from idea to lab to market: Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Business Secretary Vince Cable visited the first in an elite network of Technology and Innovation Centres - the High Value Manufacturing TIC which will be formed from a group of research and technology facilities from across the country, with Rotherham. 

Competition body consultation:  'A Competition Regime for Growth: a consultation on options for reform', has been announced by the Government. It sets out proposals to create a single Competition and Markets Authority by merging the competition functions of the Office of Fair Trading with the Competition Commission.

Solutions for Business: The Government has launched a new portfolio of products to help businesses and support growth in the economy. The new Solutions for Business package is simpler, making it easier to understand and accessible to companies.

Enterprise & trade

Creating the most entrepreneurial decade: Read Enterprise Minister Mark Prisk's speech on behalf of Vince Cable to the Federation of Small Businesses in Liverpool.

North-West LEPs: Mark Prisk toured North West local enterprise partnerships and small businesses to discuss plans for local economic growth and business support.

Strengthening Indian trade ties: Trade and Investment Minister Lord Green called for greater economic liberalisation in India to further the enhanced partnership between India and the UK.

Research & higher education

Research boost for UK manufacturing: Universities and Science Minister David Willetts has unveiled over £50m investment to ensure the UK stays at leading edge of manufacturing research - £45m will fund nine Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Centres for Innovative Manufacturing and £6 million will support the manufacturing pioneers of the future.

Higher education: David Willetts has commented on the Higher Education Funding Council for England Recurrent Grants for 2011-12.
