Introducing the WTTC Safe Travels Stamp for the tourism industry in the NWT

Dear members,

Keeping traveller's feelings of safety top of mind will be important in the recovery of our industry when leisure travel resumes. Knowing companies are implementing safety protocols is one way to restore traveller's trust. Travel companies around the world and within the Northwest Territories have been creating individual safety protocols to allow them to operate responsibly. It has been hard for travellers to keep track of these individual efforts. Accordingly, the World Travel and Trade Council (WTTC) set out to standardize safe travel, developing new global standards and protocols to help travellers recognize the businesses and destinations following best practices. The entire Safe Travels effort been endorsed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

The result of these efforts is the self-certified WTTC Safe Travels Stamp. The program consists of core requirements, and businesses must follow specific protocols which are divided up by different sectors of the travel industry. Protocols have been developed for the following sectors.

  • Hospitality
  • Outdoor Shopping
  • Aviation
  • Airports
  • Tour Operator
  • Convention Centre Meetings and Events
  • Attractions
  • Short Term Rental
  • Car Rental
  • Insurance
  • Adventure Tourism

NWT Tourism has worked with the WTTC to enable us to offer this program to you. To use the stamp, businesses must confirm that they have implemented, and will ensure ongoing compliance with, the protocols. To adopt the WTTC Safe Travels Stamp, follow the steps outlined on this website: https://members.spectacularnwt.com/members/safe-travels-stamp

Once the protocols and terms and conditions have been agreed to, and the form is submitted, NWT Tourism will issue the Safe Travels Stamp. The stamp can then be displayed on your website and/or in your business.

Displaying the specially designed stamp will allow travellers to recognize companies and governments around the world which have adopted health and hygiene global standardized protocols – so consumers can experience 'Safe Travels'. These efforts will contribute to regaining the confidence of travellers.

Other jurisdictions in Canada - big and small - are implementing the Safe Travels Stamp. We at NWT Tourism are pleased to offer this program to you.
