Dedicating "Harold Lui Way" in Honor of CPC Co-Founder and Former Board President

The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) and several Chinatown-based organizations joined Council Member Christopher Marte on November 10th for the dedication of "Harold Lui Way" on the northeast corner of Walker and Centre Streets in Chinatown. The event was attended by over 50 current and former board, staff, and community members of CPC and CPC Home Attendant Program.

"When people see this road sign, they will be reminded of Harold Lui's tireless efforts to ensure that Chinatown residents received the resources they needed to pursue a healthy and fulfilling life," said Po-Ling Ng, Assistant Executive Director and Director of Senior Services, who spoke on behalf of CPC at the dedication.

Harold Lui was born and raised in Chinatown. He was one of the founding members of CPC in 1965, having served as its Board President and later as one of its co-managing directors from 1978 to 1984.

Harold was a devoted community advocate for the Chinese American community through Hamilton-Madison House, New York City Housing Authority, and Chinatown Health Clinic (now Charles B. Wang Chinatown Health Center). He also served on the boards of numerous organizations including Henry Street Settlement, Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum, New York Urban Coalition, and Organization of Chinese Americans. He passed away in 2020.

Because of Harold’s commitment to Chinatown, it was very appropriate to memorialize him by co-naming the northeast corner of Walker and Centre Streets. It is footsteps from the CPC Chung Pak Early Childhood Center and the Pediatric Clinic of Charles B. Wang Community Health Center as well as a short walk to the CPC Chinatown Senior Center and MOCA.

Thank you to everyone for joining and supporting the dedication ceremony!
