Driverless cars are supposed to free us from the mundane experience of driving so that we can read, work or relax while we travel. But anyone who’s ever had to reach for a sickbag after reading in the passenger seat for too long will understand the problem with this idea. Luckily, Spencer Salter is working on some technological ways to stop us feeling car sick when we hand over control of the steering wheel.
Michelle Obama’s new memoir, Becoming, is expected to storm to the top of the bestseller lists, offering an insight into the woman who transformed the role of First Lady and overcame her critics to challenge inequality. She remains an inspiration for women and girls everywhere, says Clodagh Harrington. Meanwhile, Idrees Ahmad delves into Lindsey Hilsum’s new biography of legendary war reporter, Marie Colvin, concluding that she was, for all her personal flaws and misjudgements, an exemplary journalist with “an unwavering commitment
to showing humanity in extremis”.
Stan Lee, who has died at the age of 95, is being fondly remembered as the man behind the Marvel Universe. But Chris Murray points out this is only part of the story. Like many of the superheroes he helped create, Lee also had an ugly flaw.
