Patient Testimonial - Sue Piazza

"After suffering from tennis elbow for about a year, I went and saw John Parr at Therapeutic Associates in Gresham. He was able to work with me at his office, using ASTYM, ultrasound and hands on therapy to reduce my pain. He showed me exercises to stretch and strengthen my elbow and help me get my motion back.  After a few sessions, he was able send me off on my own. He had me continue with a few exercises and stretches to keep me from having any more issues with my elbow. Two years later, I am still pain free and enjoying playing tennis as much as possible."

We are pleased to have helped Sue with her recovery, and are proud of her accomplishments during her rehabilitation and her return to the tennis court.

We are equally proud of Sue’s work in our community. During the past year, Sue and some of her friends created the FAB 50 PROJECT. The FAB 50 PROJECT has been working to raise $50,000 that will be divided equally between 5 charities in the East County Area. These include:

  • Good News Community Health Clinic
  • My Father’s House Community Shelter
  • Salvation Army
  • Rotary Club of Gresham
  • Gresham-Barlow School District

Sue and her friends hope to meet their goal before June 14, 2012, which is Sue’s 50th birthday.

If you’d like to learn more about this project, the charities that are being assisted, or how you can help, please visit their website at www.fab50project.com.

Proper Dynamic Warm-Up :: Golf

space
space

To avoid injury and to play your best, it is critical to warm-up before you golf. Static stretching (long holds in stretch positions) is great for overall flexibility, but doesn’t properly prepare you for your round. Dynamic stretching is a much better way to warm-up and takes only 5 – 7 minutes.

Hitting balls is in itself a good dynamic warm-up, helps with coordination and confidence, and is certainly recommended as part of a pre-round routine. It is, however, strongly recommended to perform a few minutes of dynamic warm-up BEFORE hitting the driving range. This eliminates the risk of taking bad swings before the muscles and joints are ready to go and carrying bad habits into the round. Investing a few minutes before hitting the range is well worth the time.

Exercise of the Month :: Side Plank

The side plank is an excellent core exercise that focuses on your abdominals, back, and even shoulder muscles. Here is how you do it.

1. Lie on your side with your right forearm on the ground making sure your elbow is in line with your shoulder. Lift yourself up to form a plank with your right arm.

2. For beginners, cross your left leg in front of your right.

3. Hold the plank 10-30 seconds (or until you feel your hips sagging). Repeat 3 times on each side.

4. Remember to keep your body in a straight line while tightening your core.
