Haiti...Appalachia...HFI Disaster Response: You Are Needed!

June 2, 2016

From the Founders:

“…the greatest must become like the youngest and the leader must become a true servant.” Luke 22:26

The world’s greatest leader was disguised through acts of menial service on behalf of others. His generation and culture did not accept, nor would it recognize Him.  Their understanding of leadership was based more on power and position -- rather than relationship, service and character.

Whether it was washing dirty feet or enduring the shame and suffering of a brutal execution, Jesus manifested the unmistakable qualities of true leadership in the Kingdom of God.  In so doing, everything has changed…and the hope of eternity future made secure.  As followers of Jesus, no task is too mundane or beneath our dignity when accompanied with humility and excellence.

Some of you have served (or will serve) as a disaster responder with Hope Force International -- cleaning up debris, providing emergency medical care or mucking out a flooded home.  On a personal level, many others are caregivers for elderly parents or sick loved ones, or serve meals to the homeless.  Your life follows in the footsteps of the greatest leader this world has ever known.  Never doubt that God sees your service -- and from time to time, others will too.  Continue to serve in faithful obscurity; your light is shining…and your leadership is being established.

“…Doesn’t everyone normally assume that those who are served are greater than those who serve? But consider my role among you. I have been with you as a servant.” Luke 22:27

With hope and appreciation,

Jack & Cherie Minton, HFI Founders

This past week marked the 24th annual gathering of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (National VOAD) in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  HFI and other national non-profit organizations, private sector partners, state and federal emergency management representatives and state and territory VOADs participated. In short, National VOAD is an important movement of people with a heart to serve those who have been deeply impacted by disaster and crisis.  READ MORE

Building a "Teacher's Village"

A partnership with Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders enabled us to make significant progress with the "Teachers Village" project of Warrior Creek Development -- a new ministry given birth by Hope Force International.  Over seventy volunteers from all over the United States descended upon McDowell County to help over the past two weeks -- resulting in one completed home and two others with significant progress underway.  READ MORE

Observations from McDowell

It always amazes me at how surprised I am every time I visit McDowel County, West Virginia.  My wife and I have visited this Appalachian region every year now for the last six years, but each trip affects me deeply.

First of all, I continue to be surprised by how so many live in poverty.  READ MORE

Hope Force has been involved in Haiti since 2010, sending medical teams into the earthquake-striken country immediately following the devastation. Six years later, we count it a priviliege to continue rebuiliding efforts in this beloved country.

We have just finished building our 57th House of Hope, and are delighted to bring hope to 137 children and their families through our Child Sponorship Program (CSP).  Many of our CSP children attend a school that Hope Force has adopted -- ECCA School. The school was destroyed in the earthquake, and has since been forced to meet in make-shift buildings.

It has been a joy to partner strategically with others to raise the needed funds to rebuild this school.

Would you consider helping us reach our goal?

This short video gives a great overview of the progress underway.

Come join our cadre of over 1,400 HFI Reservists and

make a world of difference!

The Hope Force International disaster responder training is for everyone -- no matter what your skillset or experience.  Whether you're someone who enjoys physically challenging work...coming alongside to offer emotional and spiritual care....or helping through administration -- there is a place for you!  Our goal is to train those with willing hearts who want to make a lasting difference helping survivors of trauma and loss.

We will often hear, "This training is not what I thought it was going to be...but so much better!" Aristotle said, "Education of the mind without education of the heart is no education at all." We agree!  Our training addresses both the heart and mind to prepare confident responders, and we believe this is the reason our HFI Reservists have been requested time and again.

Come join us at one of the following locations:

  • Franklin, Tennessee - September 22-24, 2016
  • Pachuca, Mexico - October 26-29, 2016
  • Tupelo, Mississippi - November 10-12, 2016
