From the Founders:
“…the greatest must become like the youngest and the leader must become a true servant.” Luke 22:26
The world’s greatest leader was disguised through acts of menial service on behalf of others. His generation and culture did not accept, nor would it recognize Him. Their understanding of leadership was based more on power and position -- rather than relationship, service and character.
Whether it was washing dirty feet or enduring the shame and suffering of a brutal execution, Jesus manifested the unmistakable qualities of true leadership in the Kingdom of God. In so doing, everything has changed…and the hope of eternity future made secure. As followers of Jesus, no task is too mundane or beneath our dignity when accompanied with humility and excellence.
Some of you have served (or will serve) as a disaster responder with Hope Force International -- cleaning up debris, providing emergency medical care or mucking out a flooded home. On a personal level, many others are caregivers for elderly parents or sick loved ones, or serve meals to the homeless. Your life follows in the footsteps of the greatest leader this world has ever known. Never doubt that God sees your service -- and from time to time, others will too. Continue to serve in faithful obscurity; your light is shining…and your leadership is being established.
“…Doesn’t everyone normally assume that those who are served are greater than those who serve? But consider my role among you. I have been with you as a servant.” Luke 22:27
With hope and appreciation,
