The Greater Manchester Public Health Network, Tobacco Free Futures and Greater Manchester Public Health England Centre brought together local authorities, NHS and fire service professionals from across the NW for a satellite event on e-cigarettes last month, to coincide with a PHE e-cigarette symposium that took place in London.
This enabled discussions to take place in the NW and allowed us to join the PHE event via video link. The day was a great success with professionals sharing their learning, experiences and useful resources. A range of partners led workshops around the use of nicotine containing products (NCPs) in work and public places, marketing and young people, the implications for professionals helping smokers and providing NCPs.
If you would like to learn more about the latest evidence and information on e-cigarettes PHE have published two reviews; a report on e-cigarettes and a report on
e-cigarette uptake and marketing. Professor Kevin Fenton, Public Health England National Director for Health and Wellbeing has written a blog post on e-cigarettes and harm reduction which you can read here. The National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training has also provided updated guidance for local stop smoking services available here.

Hi and welcome to your June eNews.
We are starting to make plans for youth events which will be held during October half term. The events will provide an opportunity to engage and educate young people about tobacco industry practices and encourage more young people to take an active ‘ambassador’ role in tobacco issues. If you know a youth group that might like to attend please email us here.
With standardised tobacco packaging draft regulations expected to be published soon, we are busy briefing all our North West MPs and reminding them why standardised packaging has cross-party support and how they can help. I look forward to updating you more on this campaign next month.
