Devon presents the 11th annual Downtown in December The newly renovated Myriad Botanical Gardens transforms into an icy entertainment zone starting Thursday, Nov. 23 when the popular Devon Ice Rink opens for its 11th season. As Downtown in December’s signature event, the ice rink is expected to attract more than 30,000 thrill-seeking skaters and will offer live entertainment and special guests on the weekends. On Friday nights, a live DJ heats up the ice with popular and holiday musical favorites and will be taking your requests throughout the evening. Special guests and local radio personalities will join us on the ice as they broadcast live from the rink on Saturday nights. Admission is $10 per person and includes skate rental. Hours of operation vary, so visit DowntownInDecember.com for complete details.
SandRidge Tree Lighting Festival kicks off the holiday season Join us at the SandRidge Tree Lighting Festival on Friday, Nov. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at the Third Base Plaza outside Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Mickey Mantle Drive. Guests will enjoy live music, food and fun as Mayor Cornett lights the Christmas tree for the season. Santa will be at the festival to take free professional photos with the kids, which are printed on site immediately. Local band Banana Seat will provide live music for the evening as guests snack on Harkins’ popcorn, Nonna’s cookies and sip hot cocoa, courtesy of State Farm. There will even be a face painter for the kids and live ice carving! Some lucky festival guests will also receive a free copy of a special holiday CD titled "Songs for the Season," presented by DOKC, Inc. and the Oklahoma Chevy Team Dealers, featuring 12 local Chevy Music Showcase artists sharing custom arrangements of their favorite holiday songs. Festival attendees may also enjoy free Bricktown Water Taxi Rides between during the festivities. This event is free and open to the public.

In addition to an abundance of holiday shopping opportunities, the Winter Market will feature food vendors, treats like hot cocoa and cider, and live outdoor musical entertainment. So put on those mittens and scarves and join us for a weekend of family-friendly holiday fun, courtesy of OU Medicine. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Chesapeake Snow Tubing offers thrills to holiday adventure-seekers in Bricktown Cruise down one of the country’s largest manmade snow tubing slopes at Chesapeake Energy’s Snow Tubing at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. This snowy adventure is one of the most popular events at Downtown in December, and this year, the slope is better than ever. “Over the field we go” will have new meaning as riders slide from the ballpark’s upper deck all the way to the field on a hill of manmade snow. The snow tubes and snow are even provided in sunny weather, and for those seeking less of an adrenaline rush, a second, smaller slide will have children and moderate thrill seekers dashing through the snow. Chesapeake Snow Tubing is open Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 24 – Dec. 16 and open daily between Dec. 20 and Jan. 5. Hours of operation vary day-to-day and admission is $10 for each 90-minute session. Session size is limited, but guests may book private parties in advance by calling (405) 218-1000. Session times, holiday hours and online ticket sales are available at DowntownInDecember.com.

Pop-up shops to fill the Myriad Botanical Gardens The Myriad Botanical Gardens will launch a series of pop-up shops this holiday season, beginning Friday, Nov. 23. The pop-up shops are being ‘curated’ by local retail consultant and event producer Allison Barta Bailey. The pop-up shops are open 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. and ten percent of the sales of the shops benefit the Myriad Botanical Gardens Foundation. The pop-up shops and the Ice Rink Cafe are located on the east side of the Gardens, just steps from the Devon Ice Rink. If you're wondering what a pop-up shop is, it's a temporary retail space — the trend involves “popping-up” one day, then disappearing anywhere from one day to several weeks later. Pop-up retail allows a company to create a unique environment that engages their customers, as well as generates a feeling of relevance and interactivity. They are often used by marketers for seasonal items such as Halloween costumes and decorations, Christmas gifts and Christmas trees, or fireworks. A full list of dates and pop-up vendors can be found at myriadgardens.org.
