We hope you have all enjoyed safe and happy holidays and are looking forward to the year ahead. This month, we are ramping up work on all of our sites, so you'll see us in Heathcote and around the harbour, either building, testing and commissioning pump stations or installing parts of the new wastewater network. On behalf of the team, thanks for your patience while we complete this work. Tunnel drilling delayed one monthPlans to drill a tunnel underneath the Heathcote River and Ferry Road roundabout to install a wastewater pipeline have been delayed a month because the specialist equipment needed for the project is tied up on the West Coast. Our contractors are planning to complete drilling the tunnel on the week of 10 February and installing the wastewater pipeline through it overnight in late February, instead of 25 January as previously planned. Ferry Road works now planned for FebruaryOnce the Heathcote River drilling programme is complete, we will need to close part of Ferry Road from St Johns Street to the Ferry Road roundabout to drag a single 535-metre section of pre-welded pipeline under the ground. The team propose to complete these as night works over a single 14-hour shift to minimise disruption to residents, local businesses and general traffic. The Ferry Road works are planned for late February and we will confirm the exact dates and times closure to the works starting. This map shows where the tunnel will be drilled and the new wastewater pipeline installed. Bridle Path Road and Gondola works From Monday 6 January we've been installing part of the wastewater pipeline from the corner of Bridle Path Road through the car park and parallel to the Bridle Path walk. Access to the Gondola car park and Bridle Path walk are open at all times and there will be traffic management in place so you'll know where to go. Port Hills Road reseal still on track for summerWe are on track to reseal the carriageway during the summer months, once we’ve laid the pipeline and allowed the road time to settle. We are currently installing sections of the 4.5 km Heathcote Valley pipeline along Port Hills Road. We'll also be replacing a 600 metre section of the local water main along Port Hill Road, between the roundabout and Mauger Drive. We're finalising the design of the water main and hope to appoint a contractor and get started on the replacement works soon. Work continues around the harbourThe Cashin Quay and Diamond Harbour pump stations are awaiting testing and commissioning while a new access platform at the Governors Bay pump station will be installed in February. Currently, our main focus involves building the Simeon Quay pump station. Foundation works are being completed this month and over the coming months, you'll start to see us installing the pre cast walls, internal gantry crane and roof of this important piece of the Lyttelton Harbour Wastewater Project. Thanks for your patienceWe would like to take the opportunity to thank the community for their patience while we complete the Lyttelton Harbour Wastewater Project.
