HFI Responds to Deadly Tornado Outbreak

Yesterday’s deadly storms represent one of the most significant outbreak of tornados, during the month of November, in history.  Hundreds of homes were splintered and demolished, and 81 tornadoes sighted.

Hope Force International (HFI) is confronted with a rare challenge: while mounting an international response, a national tragedy confronts us.  HFI is responding to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, and now at the same time, we are compelled to offer help and hope right here at home.  While this certainly is stretching us, we are also better positioned than ever with capable staff and seasoned HFI Reservists.

Preparations have been made in advance that empower us to make a prompt and meaningful outpouring of practical compassion.  Our team is heading to southern Illinois today, and will begin the process of serving survivors. A primary focus will be that of blue tarp application -- a vital service that will mitigate against further water damage – as well as emotional and spiritual care.  There is a particular technique to the task of tarping a roof to FEMA standards, that when applied appropriately, can provide protection for many months if necessary.

Our national partners – The Salvation Army – have also requested Hope Force Reservists to supply leadership in their Incident Command Structure as they respond to the tornado outbreak in the Midwest.

Hope Force is making an appeal for funding in support of this sudden and unexpected event. All donations are welcome -- regardless of the amount – and will be used to provide the necessary resources to sustain the response.

With gratefulness for your support and prayers,

Jack P. Minton
