August 24, 2020: Hurricanes Marco and Laura

Hope Force International Reservists,

As would be expected in the year 2020, the possibility of two hurricanes simultaneously occupying the waters of the Gulf of Mexico was very much on the horizon just a few days ago.  We are currently thanking God that Marco has been downgraded and appears to be losing strength and momentum.  We now pray earnestly for the same to happen with Laura.

Even with the decrease in Marco’s intensity, recent reports from the Louisiana governor share that Marco has the potential of sending a 6-foot storm surge.  This, in and of itself, is significant; but the real concern is that Laura — possibly a category 3 storm by landfall — will be right on his heels with a potential 10-foot surge.  Without the time between storms for the waters to recede, this could mean catastrophic flooding — resulting in tremendous damage to homes and businesses.

Hope Force International has been actively monitoring the situation, engaging contacts in the projected areas of impact.  HFI leadership is making final preparations for initial set-up, and will be seeking to establish a base of operations within close proximity of anticipated landfall.

Current Status

What we know:

  • Storms appear to be setting their sites for landfall somewhere near the Texas/Louisiana border.
  • Marco seems to be diminishing in its intensity, but Laura has the possibility of increasing.

What We Don't Know:

  • Specifics on location and timing of deployment

What You Need To Know:

  • If deployed, we can expect initial plans and set-up to take time as things develop.
  • If you can’t deploy immediately, you could still have opportunity to serve in a later phase.
  • HFI will keep our social media platforms active and updated.

What You Need to do Now:

We are asking for all Hope Force Reservists to be on standby alert for a possible deployment to the Gulf Coast area in the Texas/Louisiana region.  Please check your calendars, and prayerfully assess logistics for you to determine if this is a good time for you to respond.  If you are available, or even think you may be, please EMAIL CONNIE with the following:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Cell phone number
  • Dates of availability (as best you know)

Also:

  • Conduct a self-assessment regarding your ability to deploy (physically, emotionally, family, etc.)
  • Prayerfully seek God regarding your involvement
  • Prepare your deployment gear and supplies
  • Communication with family, friends and employers about possible deployment
  • If you cannot go at this time, please prayerfully consider giving financially to the response efforts.

This could be a great opportunity for those of you who haven't been able to deploy for a while. Your willingness to serve others with compassionate action is greatly appreciated...and we need you!

We’d also appreciate your prayers as we continue to assess the changing situation, seeking God’s clear guidance in the process.

Thank you!
