TheReadingRoom.com Partners With WriteOnCon & Sponsors Aspiring Writers Competition

(NEW YORK) – For the third year, TheReadingRoom.com will support the WriteOnCon writer’s conference by providing first-time authors with an opportunity to receive feedback from readers and professionals on their work, including the opportunity to have their work assessed by a panel of well-respected literary agents.

As part of WriteOnCon, first-time writers can submit the first 500 words of their novel to TheReadingRoom.com Aspiring Writers Competition. Last year, TheReadingRoom.com received hundreds of entries, all read and assessed by an expert panel of editors and literary agents, who selected a short list of five entries. This year’s five shortlisted pieces will be presented on TheReadingRoom.com, where members can read and vote for their favorite entry.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for first-time authors who are often terrified at the thought of others reading their work,” said Kim Anderson, CEO of TheReadingRoom.com. “The quality of the writing in past years has made it difficult to choose the short list and, not surprisingly, member voting has been close. This year, we are very excited about being able to provide larger readership and greater exposure for these new writers.”

The first place winner receives a cash prize of $1000 and the opportunity to meet with and be assessed by literary agent Catherine Drayton at Inkwell Management, among others. In addition, this year a second place prize of $500 and a third place prize of $250 will be awarded. All of the five shortlisted writers will have their first chapter published in an eReader sampler and distributed on TheReadingRoom.com’s eReader, available on both Android and IOS.

“When the votes were finally in and I discovered I’d won, I sat in shock for several moments as I realized what this meant for me. It was more than just the money. It was recognition for all the hard work I’d put into learning craft, plot, characterization, and voice.” ~K.L Gore, 2012 winner

WriteOnCon is the brainchild of seven writers who wanted to give something back to the writing community. The conference is designed to give attendees many of the features of a live writers’ conference, but without a fee and in an online environment. WriteOnCon connects writers with both industry professionals and fellow peers from the convenience of their own homes. Critique forums allow writers to receive feedback and exposure for their work, and the entire program is designed to be both informative and entertaining.
“Our team felt so grateful for the YA writing community that we wanted to give back in some way. WriteOnCon is our effort to connect aspiring writers with industry professionals so we can all learn from one another and hopefully move forward on our road to publication. With the Aspiring Writers Competition, The ReadingRoom.com has taken this one step further. Every year, the success stories are incredibly inspiring and we look forward to many more!” ~Lisa and Laura Roecker
