There’s been a few things going on in the world of water so thought it was timely to give you an update on what’s been happening

Water conservation

We’ve seemed to pick a wet week to kick off our spring/summer water conservation campaign!

Despite the rain, we’re now asking you to save water over the coming months so we can continue work to upgrade our below ground well heads.

If demand for water rises over summer we need to bring in all our wells to ensure good supply. This means we can’t work on them. The less water you use, the faster we can work, which is our best chance of ending temporary chlorination sooner.

Well head conversion update

Ever wondered what we’re actually doing to the well heads?

Wonder no more. Watch this short animation to learn what’s involved in converting our well heads.

Work to convert well heads at five sites from below ground to above ground is expected to start later this year. The five sites are: Brooklands, Trafalgar, Lake Terrace, Denton and Dunbars.

Kainga well head conversion is continuing with the new above ground well scheduled to be operational from next week. We think it’s looking pretty good!

Upgrade work at the Hills Road pump station is progressing well with the new above ground well head running from mid-November.

It’s all hands to the pump at Grampian with two well heads being converted. One will be working from next week and the other next month.

Burnside’s new above ground well head will be up and running before Canterbury show weekend.

Hot water cylinders

We know hot water cylinders has been a topical subject lately so we’ve answered a few of the most common questions we’ve had about them.

It’s important to remember the reason we are temporarily chlorinating our water supply is for public health reasons, and was done on the advice of the Canterbury Medical Officer of Health. We need to chlorinate while we upgrade our well heads to provide an extra level of protection against waterborne illnesses. Ensuring the health of our residents is our number one priority.
