Welcome to the October newsletter

Dear ,

It’s been another very busy month in the Alumni Office. We’ve loved hearing from so many of you, as well as sharing your stories. In the last few weeks we've celebrated World Teachers' Day and National Coffee Day (above) with you and we've also shared some inspirational alumni stories on World Mental Health Day.

Don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for daily updates.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch!

Leeds Trinity on Songs of Praise

Did you see alumna Revd Kate Bottley (Secondary Religious Education with QTS, 1997) on Songs of Praise earlier this month?

The pre-recorded show brought Kate back to Leeds Trinity showing her meeting up with her old rugby teammates and reflecting on the friendships forged on the pitch and in the chapel. Watch the full episode.

Journalism and Media Week 2020

From Monday 2 to Thursday 5 November, industry professionals from Channel 4, BBC, ITV, Sky Hub and more will be delivering talks, workshops and interviews at the University's first-ever virtual Journalism and Media Week.

Steph McGovern, Ben Hunte and Jane Garvey will join over 20 speakers to discuss their careers and top tips for working in the industry. As with every other year we are extremely proud that many of the speakers throughout the week are Leeds Trinity alumni.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Choose your sessions

Alumni cycle 171 miles in one day

Congratulations to alumni Gavin Richie, Michael Brennan and Rob Pickering (all from the Class of 1986) who cycled 171 miles to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association on Saturday 10 October. They completely smashed their initial £500 target!

They took up the challenge to support two of their TASC friends with the disease.

To find out how much they've already raised or to support MND visit their JustGiving page.

Featured alumni — Charlie Russell

Charlie graduated from Sports Journalism in 2019 and is the Media Executive at Lincoln City Football Club.

As a student, he undertook placements with the media teams at FC Halifax Town and Lincoln City. Both of these opportunities proved to be of great benefit to him.

"After a few months in the role I was promoted to Media Executive at the Football Club. I love my role and without my work placements I wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am today."

You can hear more from Charlie during Journalism and Media Week as part of an alumni panel on Wednesday 4 November.

Read Charlie's alumni profile.
