PreK4 eNews

We had another busy week of learning in PreK! The children worked on listening for the short /u/ sound in the middle of words. Continue to reinforce this important reading skill at home. Give your child a simple consonant-vowel-consonant word (pig, dot, ham, mud) and have him/her identify the short vowel sound in the middle of the word.

We enjoyed reading various versions of a delightful story, The Mitten. After reading, we compared and contrasted the stories. Then the children illustrated a few of the characters from the stories.

IMPORTANT: Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, we encourage each child to be working on Valentines for the class. Children should only write his/her name on the Valentine cards, not who the card is for. This helps with distributing the Valentines. This is a meaningful way for the students to practice writing their names!

Next Week

Bible Verse: Jeremiah 32:27, “I am the Lord, the God of all. Is anything too hard for me?” (We will recite this verse in chapel. Practice at home too!)
Bible Story: Blind Bartimaeus (Over the next few months, we will learn about many of the miracles Jesus performed.)
Reading/Phonemic Awareness: We will introduce the letter “Bb” and the sound /b/ makes. (think bear and book).
Math: #9
Unit: Bears/Animals in Winter
Show and Tell: Bring something that begins with the sound of /b/.

February 7 - SHILOH CONNECT for Shiloh families from 8-9am followed by 1st Grade Little Dribblers & PH Jigglers at 9:15 am in SEC Gym
February 14 - Valentine’s Day parties in the classrooms, beginning at 2:30. Homeroom moms will be contacting parents to coordinate our fun parties!
February 18 - No School - Presidents’ Day
February 19 - Discover Shiloh Dinner Event for prospective families from 6 - 7-30 pm in the Kids Theater
