Three Questions to Consider as You Prepare for the Fall Semester
These are turbulent times. You've likely spent the last few weeks transitioning to remote work, pausing certain projects, and launching new ones. And as you respond to this pandemic, you're also preparing for the fall semester. We've been thinking about how preparation for Fall 2020 might be different this year— here are three questions every school should consider: 1. How might you expand virtual engagement for accepted and prospective students? Until now, virtual tours and events complemented physical visits to a school. Now, families aren't able to visit campuses at all. Some schools have created effective interim solutions, like virtual accepted student days and admissions events via webinars. How might your virtual experiences become more robust? How can they provide equal (albeit different) value to an in-person experience? These questions become increasingly important the longer social distancing is in effect. 2. How might you provide reassurance to alumni and other donors? Alumni and donors may not be giving at their usual rate, but you still have their attention. Be sure they know about your successful transition to remote learning, and show them you're responding to this crisis in a timely and measured way. Donors want to support smart, responsive, and communicative organizations— now is an ideal time to show how you embody these characteristics. 3. How might you improve your crisis management plan? Evaluate your office's performance during this crisis. What did you do well? What has this crisis taught you? What can you create or plan for that will help you respond more effectively next time?
