Case Study – South Coast Correctional Centre

Case Study – South Coast Correctional Centre

In November 2010 the South Coast Correctional Centre opened. Landscape Solutions, in conjunction with Soilco and Sydney Environmental Laboratories (SESL) were responsible for the rehabilitation and landscaping of the site.

The stockpiled site soils were deemed to be hostile. Previous stripping of the area had resulted in the subsoil and site topsoil being mixed, compounding issues such as:

• Erosion
• Sodicity
• Salinity
• Nutrient Deficiency eg calcium.
• Inhibition of Seed Germination

Working with Landscape Solutions, a site specific mix was designed by SESL and manufactured by Soilco. The requirement was to match the extreme subgrade conditons and harsh growing environment to a soil blend that would provide maximum seed germination rates and encourage optimum growth.

The subgrade was treated, before applying the growing media, specified fertiliser and seed. Four months on there has been successful germination and growth, overcoming the fierce conditions we have faced this summer.

Client: Landscape Solutions

Hamper Winner

Hamper Winner

Our Christmas competition featuring requests for feedback brought forward some “enlightening” replies. The main comment was that we provide more information on projects completed by Soilco and our clients so we hope you enjoy our Correctional Centre case study.

We would like to acknowledge Geoff Green from Green Horticultural for his lightening quick response. We would be happy to buy you a coffee next time you are down Geoff!

The winner was Jay Windsor from Southern Habitat. His response was way too long and cheeky to publish. Jay divided the contents of the hamper amongst refugee families that his family are associated with. We hope he kept the scotch and bourbon though. Some things are just not meant to be shared. Congratulations Jay and thank you to everyone that contributed!
