We'd like to try something different...

We have a team of creative sketchers and artists brimming with fabulous ideas and we’re interested in collaborating with clients who are happy to explore new ways of communicating and pushing the envelope.

We want to play more with craft. We’re thinking about using paper in more 3D type ways with folding and scrunching, sticking and flicking.

We want to use more real life objects. Perhaps cups of coffee that spill, cords that unwind, petals that fall.

We want to mix live vision with sketchy elements. Think a traditional talking head, but with added sketchy bits.

In short, we want to make your video unique, and if we have fun while we’re doing that, so much the better!

If this sounds like something you’re interested in, let’s chat!

Featured Video: Monash BDI Metabolic Disease and Obesity Program

We’ve recently had a great opportunity to work with researchers at the Monash BDI Metabolic Disease and Obesity Program to craft a video that helps explain the multiple causes of obesity.

We worked closely with their passionate experts to create a video that exposes the factors that contribute to the global epidemic of obesity. And the research may just surprise you.

It’s such important work the Monash BDI researchers are doing, and we’re really proud to have played a part in getting their message out there.

We’d love you to take a look.

If you'd like to find out more about Monash BDI, head to their website. And if your organisation could benefit from a similar video we'd love to help get your message out there. Get in touch!

International Forum of Visual Practitioners Conference 2017

Regular readers will know that last month I spoke at the International Forum of Visual Practitioners annual conference in Decatur, Georgia. I hadn't been to the USA in nearly 20 years, so it was exciting just to be making the trip.

What I didn't expect was to be blown away by such a welcoming, supportive, experienced and generous community (possibly due to being the only Australian in attendance out of 100 people!)

Throughout the course of the week, I had the opportunity to learn about: lettering techniques, listening strategies, sales & business advice, facilitation tips, post-production shortcuts, a comprehensive system for training visual novices, and much more.

Throughout the various sessions I witnessed some of the absolute best graphic recorders and facilitators in the world in action, which was both inspiring and incredibly humbling.

I also taught one of the sessions—a workshop on (no surprises) how to make your own sketch video. I shared some of the approaches that we use at Sketch Videos to refine a client's message, storyboard ideas for imagery, as well as practical tips on shooting and editing footage.

The workshop sold out a week before the conference, so the pressure was on to deliver something valuable to my participants. It was an ambitious task to squeeze all of that into a 3-hour workshop, but I was delighted to receive fantastic feedback from the participants. I'll definitely be heading back to the IFVP Conference next year!

I'll be debriefing with the Sketch Videos team next week, and passing on everything that I learned, so that our clients can all benefit as we continue to improve our skills and the services that we offer.

Have a Sketch-tastic Christmas in July

Christmas in July is an idea that’s really taken off this side of the hemisphere.

Being able to share food and family and festive times when the weather is a bit cooler can be equally as fun as the December version.

And we have much more time to think and plan for Christmas in July than that mad end-of-year rush.

So, while you celebrate with your family and friends – don’t forget about sharing some cheer with clients and co-workers.

Your office's Christmas in July could include…

  • A video updating your clients on new ideas, product or work
  • A postcard send-out thanking clients for their business
  • An illustrated slide deck of new ways of working for your employees
  • Unique posters, live sketching of events or a personalised bottle of wine.

And if it’s sketchy, chances are we can help you do it.

And remember to follow along for your sketchy fix on Twitter or Facebook.

Keep warm
