Bidding for each piece is open to everyone and multiple bids are fine. Come along and be amazed! Scroll down to read more about each rooms major piece. Jingi Walla Room "Children are born naturalists. Throughout the year the Jingi Walla children have explored many different experiences based on their interest in the world around them. We planted, grew and cooked with herbs in the veggie garden, found sticks and leaves at the grassy park and pressed them into playdough, looked to the sky for birds and butterflies and waited for our water-dragons to appear after their winter sleep! Jambay Room What does our art auction piece mean to the Jambay children? The backing piece of our major artwork is hessian. A natural fibre, this has been one of our favourite art mediums to work with this year. Another medium we have enjoyed painting on is calico which we have used for the Children's individual pieces. An alternative to paper, Hessian and calico absorbs paint differently and provides a different texture to work with. The children have also enjoyed beading, a wonderful experience that promotes hand eye coordination, helps strengthen fine motor skills, and supports focus and concentration. It is the combination of these three mediums that formed the basis of our artwork. For our major artwork we used combs to cut through the paint and create the effect of movement and waves. We also used potatoes to print people ('Jambay' means "holding hands in friendship"), houses (the homes and families where we come from), rails and tracks (train play has been an integral part of our play all year). We see this art work as a collaborative representation of the learning and journey that has taken place in 2019 in the Jambay Room and we are very proud of what our Jambay Children have created. Great thanks to the Bangalow Men's Shed for supplying and making our frame for our special piece. Gariimaa Room Symbolic of our internal 'Fire to Learn' that the children have shown within them throughout the year. Each aspect of this masterpiece has been an organic collaboration, as the children worked together to develop a depth filled work. The group piece 'Fire' was developed by the children of the Gariimaa Room as an idea which emerged from their interest in campfires and the uses for fire in our lives. The children embraced their respect for the natural environment as we headed out to collect different sized pieces of wood for our fire. The true feeling of awe was felt by all as they admired the powerful strength and warmth of fire as a group. Many layers of acrylic paint have been applied as the children created more and more depth to their work. The children have been developing their interest in drawing people and this has been strongly reflected in the piece as they drew themselves within a connected and belonging community. Djimbelung Room As the Djimbelung Children grow older their interest in the world around them broadens and they begin to notice even the smallest details. In the Djimbelung Room we have been establishing a strong sense of community by emersing ourselves in our local environment. This year we have visited the new park, local butcher and baker, the grassy park and had numerous visits to the school. While out walking to these places the children have noticed many points of interest in the main street of Bangalow which has led into lively discussions and ideas for further exploration within our community. This has been the inspiration and lead up to creating our collaborative group art piece. Our local streetscape has been created using felt tip pen and watercolour. Using recall and knowledge of their community and environment, each of the children was able to express themselves through their own artistic interpretations of things we experienced while walking through Bangalow. The intricate details and drawings represent many things, including some local landmarks and themselves! Have a close look and see how many things you can recognise!
