Alliance announces research grant

Providing cutting edge research on girls' education to our members is a strategic priority for the Alliance. Our Research Officer, Jan Richardson, tracks and summarises prevailing research to keep members up to date with the latest findings (available on our website); we collaborate with researchers working in the area of education; and are committed to funding research into the education of girls and the distinctive work of girls' schools.

We currently have a grant available for research which is specifically relevant to the education of girls at single-sex girls’ schools. The grant provides financial assistance of $15,000 (AUD) to the successful candidate.

What inspires Australian girls to become engineers?

Focus groups conducted earlier this year by ACER as part of the Australian Workplace and Productivity Agency's national study exploring Australia’s engineering workforce found that, overall, female engineers reported positive education experiences, often describing studying engineering at university as “awesome”.  A single-sex education was also highlighted as an important factor in choosing engineering as a career.

G(irls)20 Summit

It started in Toronto, travelled to Paris, Mexico City, Russia and is now coming to Sydney.

It's going to be an amazing two days of inspiration and empowerment for girls. Designed according to the G(20) mandate and architecture,  G(irls)20 brings together one delegate from each G20 country, plus a representative from the European and African Unions, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the MENA region to design solutions that will economically advance girls and women around the world so they can be active in the economic  growth and political stability of their home countries.

2015 Student Leadership Conference

The Student Leadership Conference provides unparalleled opportunities for girls to explore leadership styles and strategies, reflect on their own leadship aspirations and build meaningful life-long connections. Our conference program has been designed specifically to meet the needs of this exclusive cohort of girls. Based on research and feedback from past attendees it responds to the challenges faced by girls on their leadership journey. The girls are engaged in a range of activities designed to develop leadership capabilities, resilience and an understanding of themselves and their leadership styles.

A world first for Mentone Girls’ Grammar

Mentone Girls’ Grammar has become the first school in the world to achieve the highly esteemed International Certification through the Council of International Schools (CIS), headquartered in The Netherlands.

The certificate recognises the work of schools in developing global citizens. Mentone Girls’ Grammar is one of just ten pilot schools chosen around the world to embark on this journey of reflection and analysis, together with staff, student and community members, culminating in an intensive CIS evaluation.

Women of Achievement

The newest addition to our Women of Achievement gallery is Deborah O'Neill, Labor Senator for New South Wales and former Federal Member for Robertson. She is an alumnae of St Patrick's College, Campbelltown, and attended Sydney University, UNE and ACU where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts, teaching qualifications and a Masters degree. Deborah was a high school teacher and university lecturer before entering politics. She is Junior Vice President of NSW Labor, Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Health and Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services.

Building blocks in Brisbane

In June, Bond University welcomed its newest member to the Pathways and Partnerships team - Mr Peter Franks, General Manager, Platinum Schools. Peter's role is primarily focused on establishing genuine, innovative and lasting partnerships with a select group of schools within the Brisbane area. 

Peter has had an extensive career within the education sector and, prior to commencing work with Bond University, was the Deputy Headmaster of Newington College, a prominent GPS Boys School in Sydney. He also spent time at Sydney's Trinity Grammar School, after leaving Tasmania where he held a variety of classroom and management responsibilities. These diverse experiences have seen him develop a comprehensive knowledge of the education sector.
