Ruth Craggs

ACADEMIC INTERVIEW: RUTH CRAGGS

Dr Ruth Craggs, Lecturer, Environment, Politics and Development Research Group

Why do you love geography?
Because it allows me an insight into what makes places the way they are, and how we might change them.

What are your research passions?
I love digging around in the archives and interviewing people about their pasts, in order to understand how people understood the world in the past. I’m particularly interested in the process of decolonisation, and ideas about internationalism that were formed during and after empire.

Which undergraduate courses do you teach?
Current Research in Geography , Fieldwork in Human Geography (Kerala), and Historical Urbanism

Why did you choose to work at King's?
It's a great, lively department, right in the heart of London.

Your secret London tip?
There are lots of lidos – enjoy swimming in the open air! Also – try walking not getting the tube if you can – you get a much better sense of the geography of London.
