Welcome to the April newsletter

Dear ,

Thank you so much for the incredible support you've given us in these difficult times. So many of you have sent stories, offers of support and kind messages. It's times like these when we really see what an incredible and supportive alumni and former staff network we have. Please know how much this is valued and appreciated.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our alumni community and loved ones a happy and safe Easter.

Sharing stories, support and tips

We've been posting daily updates about top tips, advice and inspirational stories about our alumni on the Alumni Facebook page.

One of these updates is the 30-day "Understandable" programme, masterminded by alumnus and current MA student Tommy Holgate. The programme is based on positive psychology, character strengths, self-affirmation and breathwork.

Film project opportunity

Could you capture 10 to 15 seconds of film (preferably in portrait) on your phone and say your name, course, graduation year and what the one best thing about Leeds Trinity was?

We're working on a short film that we'll share once we have enough footage. If you'd like to participate, please email your footage to the Alumni Office.

Inspiring alumni

In March, alumni Reverend Kate Bottley and Richie Anderson, participated in an extreme triathlon challenge with fellow BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley. The trio swapped the studio for the outdoors to undertake Dare 2 Tri, a three-day series of triathlons in three cities across the UK, raising money for Sport Relief.

We caught up with Kate and Richie in Salford for day three of their challenge. We felt so proud of them, we decided to made a video of the day.

Tradition raises more money for Macmillan

In March, for the sixth consecutive year, staff and alumni took on the Women's FC (with help from Men's Rugby League) to compete for the Mick Marshall Trophy, to raise money for Macmilan.

Over £2,000 has been raised since we started this annual game. For the sixth time alumna Katie Marshall presented the trophy to the staff team.

Featured alumni - Sarah O'Mahony

Sarah O'Mahony graduated from PGCE Secondary Maths in 2019 and is a Maths Teacher at Thirsk School. It was actually during a PhD, whilst teaching undergraduates, that she decided she wanted to be a teacher. Sarah has dyslexia, but uses her own expereince to help students who are dyslexic.

"At the end of the lesson or a busy week it is so rewarding to know you have made a positive difference."

Sarah's profile was captured for the April edition of Red Magazine. Huge thank you to fellow Leeds Trinity alumnus Mark Dolby for the photographs. Read more about Sarah in her alumni profile.
