Request for Course Development Proposals
Development of Experimental Teaching Modules
The Sheridan Center is accepting proposals to develop experimental modules or new courses that pursue creative approaches to teaching and learning at Brown. Proposals will be accepted beginning on April 1, 2014, and will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with Sheridan Associate Director John Melson to discuss their proposal prior to submission.

Reminders:

• Applications for Certificate V: Principles and Practice in Reflective Mentorship are due Monday, May 12th 2014.
• Applications for the Sheridan Junior Faculty Teaching Fellow program are due Friday, May 30th 2014.

Preparing Now for Next Year's Academic Job Market  Tue, May 13, 2014 at the Sheridan Center

Applying for academic jobs next year? Then come to this program & learn what you should do this summer to get ready. The program features a presentation on preparing now for next year’s market & a panel of doctoral students/postdocs who have successfully navigated the academic job market in the life & physical sciences. 

Cultivating an Online Presence for the Academic Job Market Wed, May 14,  3-4pm at the Sheridan Center
How do you create a professional profile online? How can you use websites and social media to take control of your online image? This session, led by Sheridan Center Associate Director Carie Cardamone, will provide tips and advice about crafting an online profile for the academic job market.

These programs are part of the Spring 2014 Academic Job Search Series, a collaboration between the CareerLAB & Sheridan Center. Registration preferred; please click the event title above to register.

Members of the Brown community are invited to honor the recipients of the University awards in Teaching and Research at the 2014 Awards Ceremony. Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of faculty and graduate students at this university-wide reception and ceremony. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research.

On July 1st registration will open for the following Sheridan Center Teaching Certificate Programs:

• Certificate I - Sheridan Teaching Seminar: Reflective Teaching  -  Develop and refine fundamental teaching & assessment strategies and communication skills based on how students learn.
• Certificate II* - Course Design Seminar: Principles + Practice -  Develop strategies and practices for course design, implementation and assessment. (limited enrollment)
• Certificate III* - Professional Development Seminar - Develop teaching portfolio, cover letters, CVs and interview & presentation skills for the academic job market. (limited enrollment & separate sections for the Humanities & Social Sciences, and Life & Physical Sciences) 
• Certificate IV* - Teaching Consultant Program - Develop and apply peer observation & feedback skills and expertise in leadership & discussion facilitation. (limited enrollment)

Registration for New TA & New Faculty Orientations will also open on July 1st.

* Certificate I is a prerequisite for these programs.
