LUNCH & LEARN, HANDS-ON LEARNING and FLORIDA GARDENING SERIES at Bok Tower Gardens provide opportunity for learning about Florida’s Landscape and Beyond

Natural Products for Pest Control

The most difficult part of pest control is figuring out which pest is causing the problem. We will show pictures of many different pests and the natural products that can be used in the garden.  At the end of the talk, there will be plenty of time for Q&A.

UF/IFAS Extension experts will teach you what herbs to grow each season and provide some tips and tricks for preserving and preparing foods. Perennial Vegetables for Florida
Saturday, October 8, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
$20 per person
Join h.e.a.r.t. Agricultural Manager Josh Jamison to learn about growing, propagating, and using highly nutritious crops from around the world. We will cover perennial plants ranging from Cassava, Yams, Chaya, Moringa, Katuk, Papaya, Longevity Spinach, Cranberry Hibiscus, Chayote, and many more. This class is two hours featuring a PowerPoint presentation and a sampling of some of the featured vegetables.

Fruits for Central Florida
Saturday, January 14, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
$20 per person
In this class you will learn essential techniques for growing fruit naturally and successfully. We will also cover many of the fantastic fruits that grow here, from Avocados to Jaboticabas to Paw Paws. A two-hour class with a PowerPoint presentation and a garden walk looking at some of the fruits in our Edible Garden with Director of Horticulture Greg Kramer.

HANDS-ON LEARNING SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Hypertufa Containers
Saturday, November 5, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
$25 per person, includes supplies, class held at Olmsted House
Learn how to make your own hypertufa container with master gardeners. Using a mix of cement, peat moss and vermiculite/perlite, participants will take home a piece of art that is sure to be the highlight of your garden! This workshop will get messy, so be sure to wear old clothes.
