New Boothby website launched
|
I hope you like the look of the new Boothby e-newsletter! I also hope you will take a look at my brand new website. My previous site was getting a bit long in the tooth, and I felt it was time to give it a refreshed look, and make it easier for everyone to use and navigate.
Beyond simply a way for me to let you know what I'm doing, the new website is designed to be much more interactive, allowing you both to make your views and opinions known to me more directly, as well as debate and discuss issues amongst yourselves
. I've even tried to make it a handy resource for those of you with less of an interest in politics.
I’ve added a Blog, which I’m going to endeavour to update at least weekly, to keep everyone a little better informed of what I’m doing as your local member, and what the current issues in Federal Parliament are.
There are also new interactive sections covering Issues in Boothby and Primary Healthcare Issues. I will be updating the topics in these sections regularly and really hope that everyone will use these to generate discussion on how to best address some of the issues in our local area.
There’s also a new Community Calendar which will list all the school fairs, community fetes, and other public events happening within Boothby. I’m hoping it will be a useful tool so that everyone can keep track of local events.
Plus of course you can learn a little more about the electorate, me and my views
, and what I have been doing to represent your interests both locally and within Parliament.
Another milestone for the Flinders Cancer Centre
|
Construction of the $28 million Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer recently reached its highest point, changing both the landscape of the Flinders Medical Centre campus and the future of cancer prevention and treatment in South Australia.
Following building site tradition, a ‘Topping Out’ ceremony was held where an evergreen tree was placed on the highest point of the building to represent growth and good luck.
In a gesture of hope for the future, representatives of the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation, Flinders University, Flinders Medical Centre, Andrew Southcott MP, Federal Member for Boothby, and other funding partners signed their names on one of the Centre’s highest pillars.
“It’s a great feeling to see the Centre taking shape,” Andrew Southcott said. “After the tremendous effort that so many people have put into making this new facility a reality, milestones like this one really drive home that it has all been well worth the effort.”

Nominate for the National Volunteer Awards
|
Andrew Southcott, Federal Member for Boothby, has called for nominations from the local community for the National Volunteer Awards.
The awards campaign is intended to recognise individuals who make an outstanding contribution to their local community through volunteering.
“Volunteering is an essential part of the Boothby community. Volunteering connects us, strengthens our sense of belonging and creates positive relationships that build a stronger local community,” said Andrew Southcott.
“Boothby relies heavily on the contribution of volunteers – the unsung heroes who give up their free time to deliver services, in the areas of sport, emergency services and community welfare.

After 3 ½ years in Government, 12 GP Super Clinics operational
|
After nearly three and a half years in Government, the Coalition would like to acknowledge the significant achievement of Minister Roxon and the Labor Government on the opening of their 12th GP Super Clinic yesterday.
While the latest GP Super Clinic was months late and had no phone number for patients to ring we should acknowledge this important milestone of the Government.
In 2007-08 the ALP promised 36 GP Super Clinics and 12 of these are now operational.

After 15 years in the offices I occupied when I was first elected, we have finally moved into new premises - just down the road.
The Boothby Electorate Offices are now located at Level 1, 724 Marion Road, just opposite the Marion Hotel.
Thanks to all who came along to help us celebrate the opening of the new premises, and to Nick Chigwidden, FIVEaa Client Director, former Glenelg Football Legend (and our new landlord) for cutting the ribbon.
