The opportunities include invitations to join sessions such as a virtual budget seminar, which starts tomorrow, catch up on the latest economic news as it affects Australia in mid-October or another economic update at the end of the month. If it is action you desire, in November we have a day of driving top performing Mitsubishi vehicles on roads and on the sandy beach of Goolwa coupled with plenty of networking with other Scholars. The highlight of September was the COVID safe Awards night where we welcomed twenty two new Scholars to the ILF Scholar family. They are an outstanding group of individuals. The low number of female Scholars this year has attracted some attention and I am grateful to those who have provided suggestions. I do not believe this is due to a lack of effort or any bias on the part of the ILF but am keen to discover what more might be done to increase female success. In order to explore options to improve the ratio I am proposing to hold a meeting in November with interested Scholars. If you would like to be part of the discussion please register your interest with Suzi. In a week’s time Alf Ianiello (ILF2011), CEO of Detmold Group is hosting a booked out tour of the Detmold Surgical Face Mask factory. The numbers were increased from 40 to 60 on day 3 and it still booked in less than five days. This is a record strong level of interest in any ILF function to date. If you email Suzi and ask nicely she may create a wait list. There are some great offers from Scholars in the classified section. A reminder if you wish to promote your product with a special deal for your fellow ILF Scholars please let Suzi know. The Quiz offers you the chance to test your predictive powers and the opportunity to win some great wine. Our Scholar in focus this month is Patrick Power and his story is inspirational. Most of our Scholars are kicking big goals and the media is always interested. Media articles are other releases follow for you to read. If you provide your news stories and releases they can be added to the website daily and listed in each monthly bulletin. 2. Grant Thornton's Federal Budget Virtual Conference.
· Hugh Riminton, National Affairs Editor, Network 10 · Dr Ian Norton, Global Health Emergency Expert · Besa Deda, Chief Economist, St. George Banking Group · Phillip Coorey, Political Editor, Australian Financial Review Click this link for information and to register: https://go.grantthornton.com.au/Federal_Budget_2020_Industry_Leaders.html 3. COVID19 Scholar Questionnaire - Overview COVID19 Survey With nearly 70 responses the COVID19 survey of Scholars provides some interesting insights and a number of confirmations of “what we all knew”. See the highlights on a one page summary See below for a more depth easy to read nine page summary. 4. New Quiz Competition The US election has huge implications for our world. It was looking like a close run race until COVID19 caught up with Donald Trump. This brings a whole new level of uncertainty to the outcome. There are two US election questions this month: Will Donald Trump be forced to withdraw from the race? If he does “go all the way” will he win? First correct answers received by COB 10 October will win. Send your answer to suzi@industryleaders.com.au Results announced in the December Bulletin. The winner to September's quiz, will be announced in February's bulletin. 5. ILFSN COMING EVENTS: Tuesday 13 October at 5.30pm Sponsored by EY and Detomold Group This event is fully booked. Monday 9 November, 9.30am to 3.30pm Drive to Goolwa Surf Club with driver changes on the way so you can experience different vehicles. Take turns to drive the vehicles in testing sand undulations and along the beach at Goolwa for two hours. Return to Angoves at McLaren Vale for lunch at 1.30 pm. Those who attended the Audi drive day in 2019 will recall how good the Angove’s lunch was. Arrive at Mitsubishi Tonsley by 3.30 pm. This is a drive day with a difference. It offers real adventure and will teach many of us new lessons. Geoff Vogt believes these vehicles are quiet achievers. They are great family cars, and excellent workhorses for trailers, boats and outback adventures. The famous camera wholesaler, John Mack, used to drive throughout outback SA and WA, including roads such as the Gunbarrel Highway to deliver stock and display new equipment to retailers and photographers living in isolated parts. John drove Land Cruisers for many years on these trips, but found they were not a bullet proof as legend would have it. John, who is a personal friend of Geoff, says he decided to try a Pajero about 15 years ago and found it to be not only unbreakable but far more comfortable and functional. He does much less outback driving these days but sticks to Pajero as his vehicle of choice. This event has been made possible with the support of Shaun Westcott (ILF 2018), President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia. This event will be big and numbers must be limited. Scholars wishing to join us will need to watch out for the invitations which will arrive in your in box soon. 6. Defence Force front line experiences for Scholars Leadership in the armed forces today is very different from what is depicted in movies about World War 2 or the Vietnam conflict. Many of the best leadership training programs today are based on modern military leadership methodology. Here is a chance to see some of these techniques being taught and rehearsed. An ideal way to get an inside insight into how the Australian Defence Force works is to join a Defence Reserves Supportive Employer activity. The Manager of the activities has invited ILF Scholars to join them. Future activities include: 13 November 2020 - Adelaide Universities Regiment (AUR) Exercise Gona. Scholars are invited to observe an exclusive Army Reserve Officer Training session conducted in a field training environment at Murray Bridge Range. You will have the chance to participate in and observe the many benefits that Army Reserve Officer Training can provide to your employees and your organisation. The day’s activities include:

Awards Night The highlight of September was the COVID safe Awards night where we welcomed twenty two new Scholars to the ILF Scholar family. They are an outstanding group of individuals several of whom said out loud in their application interviews, my company or my product “is going to be the best in the world”. It was really exciting to hear South Australian business leaders speak like this after years of hearing understated aims delivered in an apologetic tone. On the night Kris Lloyd AM (ILF2014) made an inspirational speech about the effects of the bushfires and COVID19 on her business at Woodside Cheese Wrights. Both events occurred within three months and each separately nearly wiped the business out. However as a result of her leadership the business is stronger than ever. How about that for test of leadership? Next the Police Commissioner, Grant Stevens, spoke about his experience and the leadership lessons through the COVID19 period. He explained the tough roles he had performed in the Police Force before being appointed Commissioner and reminded us about the big blackout which had been the biggest thing for him and the Police to manage in recent times. He then explained the effect of COVID19 on his professional life and personal life. He explained how many sleepless nights he had suffered and how his decisions had impacted his son’s eighteenth birthday party. He demonstrated a clear understanding of the effect of restrictions on business right now but also reminded us those restrictions will become worse if COVID19 gets out of control. A fine balancing act indeed. It rapidly became clear that all the previous challenges he had faced, as big as they were, faded into insignificance compared to COVID19. We were honoured to have the Premier join us for the whole event, changing his schedule so he could arrive in time and departing later than planned, so he could meet as many Scholars as possible. The award of the first ever Colin J Peters AM Memorial Award, presented by Scott Peters and his sister Nicole Peake to Anthony Kittel (ILF2010) capped off a brilliant evening. I thank everyone for their compliments and kind words about the event. 10. Promote your product or service to other Scholars In the interests of supporting fellow South Australian businesses, Scholars are encouraged to promote their products to fellow Scholars in the Bulletin. New entries will need to be lodged by 5 pm Friday 23 October and should be no more than 50 words. The entry can be repeated upon request for one further month without modification. After that a fresh edited or new entry will be required. Links to your website can be included. Special offers for Scholars only are encouraged. Please email Suzi@industryleaders.com.au
