Thanks to your support, we’ve started the year off strong! Check out some of our early stats for our 2020-21 school year. *Your generosity supports MKE area students that are most in need. 99.31% of students qualify for Milwaukee or Wisconsin School Choice Program. Elementary students return next week!Though classes are virtual, we have received approval from the Milwaukee Health Department for some students to return to school. We are actively communicating with elementary school families about the move back to school. The students are divided into waves, with the first wave starting September 28. Please join us in prayers for a safe return! STEM knowledge proves useful for virtual learningSo many of you specifically support our STEM programs. At Aug Prep, each high school student selects a STEM track to major in (biomedical science, computer science or engineering). Arnoldo, a 10th grade scholar majoring in Engineering, put his skills to use on the second day of school when he experienced a power outage. He was so committed to being in classes that he pulled energy from a 12 volt battery to power his Chromebook! The following week, new high school science teacher, Molly Quakkelaar, followed suit and hooked up her laptop to an air compressor to access power. Both are prime examples of innovation and perseverance you support at Aug Prep! Double your donation! Throughout the end of this year, the Ramirez family has pledged to match up to $1.5 million of donations. You can double your gift before December 31st by donating or committing to a sponsorship opportunity for our 4th annual gala, which has moved to April 22, 2021. Camaraderie shines through online7th grade math teacher, Meghan Biernacki, says virtual learning is going better than she ever expected because her students are extremely motivated and tapping into one of our core virtues - perseverance.
In larger classes, Ms. Biernacki has noticed a new sense of camaraderie. She has witnessed cheerleading in the chat box when a student is nervous to answer a question. That's not normal with in-person learning. She has been witnessing them gain confidence in front of their peers.
