FOSTERING YOUNG FILM MAKERS

BOFA’s Short Film Competitions are an important way of promoting Australia’s (and especially Tasmania’s) up and coming young film makers. A selection of the best of this year’s entries will be screened before each feature at this year’s Festival. And BOFA 2016 will also feature a Short Film Masterclass and a special Script to Screen Film Maker’s Workshop for the next generation (ages 12 to 18)

SHORTS BOFA

AUSSIE LAUNCESTON
FRIENDS OF THE FESTIVAL – AUSSIE LAUNCESTON

SHORTS BOFA is supported by Aussie Launceston. Aussie Launceston is a community focussed mortgage broker that can help first home buyers, investors and new home purchasers or provide customers with a quick home loan health check to ensure you've still got the best deal on your existing home loan. Aussie Launceston loves Australian stories and has made it possible for one of Australia’s leading film makers and actors Clayton Jacobsen (Kenny) to be a special guest at BOFA 2016 and a judge of the BOFA Aussie Short Film Competition.

The competitions for Best Aussie Short Film and Best Tassie Short Film are open to all Australian residents with a film of 15 minutes or less made in the last five years. Each winning film maker will receive the unique hand crafted blown glass BOFA Devil Award plus $1,000.

BOFA this year features two other short film competitions, Tasmanian Parks – a Place to Connect, celebrating the centenary of Tasmania’s National Parks, and, in a new initiative to promote junior football in Tasmania, Hawthorn Football Club has partnered with BOFA in a short film competition.

All the winning short films will be announced at BOFA 2016.

CLAYTON JACOBSON
SPECIAL BOFA 2016 GUEST – CLAYTON JACOBSON

Like many directors before him, Clayton Jacobson cut his teeth directing music videos for some of Australia's premier musical acts including INXS, John Farnham, Kate Ceberano, and Jimmy Barnes as well as making many award winning local and international television commercials, short films and documentaries.

In 2006 he wrote and directed the box office and critically acclaimed hit, Kenny and will be our special guest at BOFA 2016 hosting a special screening to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this iconic Australian film.

KENNY
KENNY

Kenny Smyth (Shane Jacobson) has possibly one of the most thankless and off-putting occupations imaginable: He's a plumber who specializes in delivering and maintaining portable toilets to well-populated events. We follow Kenny as he juggles his family life with his excrement-soaked travails and eventually works his way to the highlight of his career -- a visit to the International Pumper and Cleaner Expo in Nashville. One of Australia’s greatest boxoffice hits and just as funny 10 years on.
