BBII funds faculty projects with potential for patient benefit
Brown Biomedical Innovations to Impact will fund four projects: drug developments to combat glioblastoma; treatment for a rare childhood genetic disorder; growth of human biomaterials; and enhanced video for more collaborative surgery. Therapyx licensed a protein micronization and encapsulation process developed by Edith Mathiowitz, Ph.D. (Engineering) that enhances storage ability for active drugs and shields them from degradation, including in the disease microenvironment. New patents to Brown

Updated NIH Data Archive (NDA) Global Unique Identifier (GUID) Tool
NDA released an updated version of the NDA GUID Tool, which facilitates investigator generation of unique subject identifiers. The new version provides an updated user experience and no longer requires Java to be installed on local systems. When to acknowledge NIH funding

Brown subscribed to a new module in the CITI training system, “Undue Foreign Influence: Risks and Mitigations," which covers cybersecurity and compliance considerations for safeguarding research and nondiscrimination laws. Updated IRB Policy: Reportable Events and Noncompliance

NSF publishes PAPPG (NSF 22-1)
The requirement to use an NSF-approved format for preparation of the biographical sketch and other support pages continues. For proposals submitted before Oct. 4, 2021, use PAPPG version 20001. On or after Oct. 4, 2021, use PAPPG version 22-1.
