Fascinating new insights into the history of the Gold Coast, and the slave trade in West Africa, are being gleaned from the Christiansborg Castle in Ghana’s capital Accra. Rachel Ama Asaa Engmann explains the work she and her team are doing through archaeological excavations, artefact analysis and the close involvement of the community living near to the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Nigerians go to the polls in February next year to elect a new president. As the country counts down the weeks it’s clear that most Nigerians aren’t that impressed with the two leading presidential aspirants because neither offers the country any real hope.
