BizNGO Group Launches New Tools for Identifying Safer Chemicals and Sustainable Plastics

The Business NGO Working Group for Safer Chemicals and Sustainable Materials, or the BizNGO Group, is a coalition of business leaders and environmental health groups working to protect consumers from toxic chemicals. Last month the group released two new frameworks to help companies choose more sustainable plastics and safer chemicals for their products, namely the Principles for Sustainable Plastics, and the Chemical Alternatives Assessment Protocol (v.1.0): How to Select Safer Alternatives to Chemicals of Concern to Human Health or the Environment. Upcoming Green Chemistry Educational Opportunities

There will be a GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals training held in conjunction with the upcoming Green Chemistry and Commerce Council (GC3) Innovators Roundtable in Ann Arbor, MI. The GreenScreen workshop, hosted by NSF International, will take place May 8, 2012 immediately preceding the GC3 meeting on May 9-11. This daylong training will be of particular interest to business experts in supply chain management, materials selection, procurement, product and process design, environmental health and safety, sustainability, and regulatory affairs who need to select safer chemicals for their products. There will also be a session on the GreenScreen and various continuing education courses on green chemistry offered at the upcoming Society of Toxicology (SOT) Annual Meeting & ToxExpo in San Francisco March 11-15, 2012.
