ACTEaz - COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR!

West-MEC is proud to Congratulate LOU HART for being awarded the 2011 ACTEaz Counselor of the Year for the State of Arizona! Lou is currently the lead counselor for Valley Vista High School in the Dysart Unified School District. She is beginning her 7th year as the Lead Counselor.  Lou is a dedicated counselor; her commitment to CTE specifically manifests itself in many ways.  Currently Lou is the Districts CTE site counselor, VV’s West-MEC Representative, the Dual Enrollment Liaison and a visionary for the ECAP process for all students on her campus.

Lou works closely with the CTE department at VV to promote a coherent sequence of instruction. Lou was instrumental in the design of a CTE flowchart that provides counselors with a visual device to use in scheduling students for CTE courses.  West-MEC numbers have increased yearly in the Dysart District under her direction.

Lou is also a Sophomore Fellow in ACTEaz.  Please join us in congratulating her for this great honor. If you would like to contact her, she can be reached at lou.hart@dysart.org  If you know a deserving counselor, that goes the extra mile in the area of CTE – Why not nominate them next spring for the award.  All Nominators and Nominees must be an ACTEaz member.  Please go to ACTEAZ.org for more information about membership.

Professional Development brought to you!

We would be glad to bring an interactive professional development presentation to your districts:

“If participation in CTE is related to the development of increasingly strong attachments to schools, fewer drop outs, and better postsecondary educational endeavors and/or a high demand career, then both CTE and guidance professionals must work together to reach students, inform parents, and educate communities. Current data on CTE participation correlating with graduation and dropout rates, college attendance and completion, along with occupational trends and job forecasts will enable participants to evaluate a counseling program. “

Fellow counselors at the Az Association of Career and Technical Education state conference in Tucson enthusiastically received this presentation. The presentation is 1.5 hours, but we can adjust to meet your needs. Larger groups of 10 plus counselors are ideal in order to have interactive activities. Please contact us to schedule this presentation for your district.
