The Town has been working with various organisations including Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) to roll out initiatives related to waste management, recycling and reusing of materials. Currently, the reduction in the impact of plastic pollution is a major focus. The Town recently held a sold-out workshop on this topic. For tips and advice on how to reduce your plastic use, use the resources provided by the MRC, or attend one of their many events. Wandering catsIn a few weeks time, the Rangers will be humanely trapping cats in residential areas to try and reduce numbers of feral cats in the Town. The traps will not distinguish between feral cats and pets, so if your cat roams away from your property during the day or night, please ensure that they are microchipped and registered so that we can contact you if they are picked up by the Rangers. By law, all cats must be microchipped, sterilised and registered with the Town. If your cat is impounded, there will a cost to retrieve it. All vets offer microchipping, and if you have several animals needing to be microchipped there are mobile providers who will come to you. Information about registering your cat or dog can be found on our website with registrations half price until 31 October. Community centre playground upgradeThe Town has just completed upgrades to the rear of the Victoria Park Community Centre which included replacing the old swing sets with a brand new playground. With the help of Town technical staff, the community centre board chose a playground design which best suited the space and children using the centre. Some other minor works completed included top dressing the turf area and pruning the trees. Playground upgradesFraser ParkThe existing playground here was installed in 2004 and a survey of surrounding residents identified some concerns about the location and sand. A fantastic new playground has been installed next to the clubrooms which offers better access, and more options for a wider age range to slide, swing, balance and explore their strength and creativity! The existing playground equipment is still serviceable and will continue to offer older children options for play. Fletcher ParkThe old playground at Fletcher Park has been well used for over a decade and was well and truly due for an upgrade. A new playground featuring many fun options for children of all ages has been installed. Some of the old playground equipment will be salvaged and used for spare parts for other equipment around the Town. If you check out the new playgrounds snap a photo for social media and tag us! Don't forget to use #lifeinthepark Higgins Park Tennis ClubThe Higgins Park Tennis Club clubroom kitchen has had a bit of a face-lift with a lick of paint and new flooring, cabinetry, sinks, tiling and stainless steel benches. A larger new oven and rangehood were installed to enable catering for functions. A new solid-core door and roller shutters on the windows were installed to increase security. 593 Albany Hwy
