Have a Cracking New Year!

Have a Cracking New Year!

Welcome back to the Cracking Ideas newsletter and a Happy New Year to you all! Are you feeling a bit glum now all the festive celebrations are over? Don’t let this period get the better of you … January is well known for fresh starts, resolutions and learning new things and so why not adopt this ‘turning over a new leaf’ feeling and start 2010 afresh with an innovative approach?

At crackingideas.com we’ve got plenty to get your brain in gear, with an exciting national competition, fun activity challenges and much more….

Wallace & Gromit's Next Business?

Wallace & Gromit's Next Business?

The current Cracking Ideas competition is open until March 31st, so there is still plenty of time to celebrate the start of the New Year by indulging your inner inventor and taking part! All you have to do is come up with Wallace and Gromit’s next business venture and you could win some cracking prizes including a laptop, signed drawing from Nick Park, and many more Wallace & Gromit goodies!

Maybe Wallace and Gromit could set up their own slap-stick comedy circus aimed at cheering people up after the festive season? Or with the grit supplies running out, perhaps they could help solve the problem of icy roads in the UK?

Whatever idea you choose for Wallace & Gromit's new business, be sure to look into how patents, trade marks, design and copyright can help them. Don’t forget there are lots of helpful hints and tips and information about intellectual property at www.crackingideas.com and www.ipo.gov.uk which you can use when completing your competition entry.

Stuck for Ideas?

Stuck for Ideas?

Look at the enterprising pair for inspiration – see a problem, a dilemma, a predicament that needs a solution and set about creating something that fixes it. Just look at the invention of the brilliant Bunvac 3000 developed as a response to Lady Tottingham’s bunny infestation in ‘Curse of the Were Rabbit'!

Like Nick Park’s animated duo, previous winners of the Cracking Ideas competition have proven their creative problem solving skills too. Last year East Allington Primary school triumphed by inventing the ‘Waker Upper 3000’ (pictured, right) – a contraption designed as a response to having to stay awake whilst undertake boring tasks such as completing homework. 2008’s victors, Great Arley School developed ‘Charlie the Chair Stacker’ as a response to observing the caretakers difficulties clearing away a hall full of chairs.
