Senior School Innovation Challenge - September 28

An inspiring talk by guest speaker, Kyle Gieni, from the Rick Hansen Foundation provided an introduction to Senior School’s second annual 'hackathon', Innovation Challenge: Beyond Human, to be held on September 28. Open to girls in Grades 8-12, with invites being extend to York House and Little Flower Academy, this is sure to be a fun-filled day as the girls work together in small groups to solve problems centred on the theme of accessibility and assistive technology.

No coding experience is needed and there is no cost for students to participate. With lots of great speakers, plus prizes, food and shirts included, it’s sure to be a full house! Students are encouraged to learn more or register at the event’s website, designed Grade 11 student Pippa.

Message from the Parents’ Auxiliary Chair

A warm welcome back to the 2019–2020 school year. It was wonderful to catch up and see everyone enjoying the sunshine and the amazing food at the Welcome Back BBQ. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers who made it all possible.

And once again, a sincere thank you to everyone who participated in and organized the PA’s annual Backpack Drive. Thanks to your efforts, students in need in the Vancouver area will start the year off properly with a full complement of school supplies. There are many more events and programs like these planned for the months ahead, starting with the Whole Girl, Whole World Speaker Series on September 26 and our signature Winter Bazaar on November 16. I encourage everyone to get involved and enjoy being a part of the strong, vibrant community that defines Crofton House School.

Winter Bazaar & Upcoming Blitz Collection Days

This year's Winter Bazaar is on Saturday, November 16 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. We invite everyone to come out and volunteer, eat, shop, play, and enjoy. Once again, all proceeds will go to KidSafe, a local organization supporting vulnerable children during school breaks.

In order to stock the shelves of our Resale Booths, Blitz Collection Days will begin September 30, October 2 and 4 from 8 am to 9 am. More collection dates, including two Saturdays, will be held throughout October, so start gathering together your gently used donations now and get ready to drop them off at the tent at the Balaclava entrance. As well, new this year, we will have a rolling rack at each Blitz Day to receive and hang your pre-loved designer clothes and purses.

Volunteer to help out Creative Arts & Applied Technology Teachers

Our Creative Arts and Applied Technology teachers are looking for parent volunteers to help with various tasks and events throughout the school year. If you have an interest in supporting the programming, SignUp online. This is a unique opportunity for Senior School parents to volunteer their time and skills. An added perk, you get to hang out with great people and support creativity and innovation for your daughters.

Backpacks

Thank you to those who participated in the CHS Parents’ Auxiliary backpack drive. This week, 300 backpacks were delivered to several schools and the YWCA, ensuring students in need returned to school with the supplies necessary to start the school year.
