BE FRIENDLY PDX at Festival of Flowers!

The annual Festival of Flowers returns June 3-14 with BE FRIENDLY PDX designed by Holst Architecture. Holst’s design will bring awareness to the essential impact bees have on the environment and food supply, and the vital responsibility we have to keep bee colonies safe and healthy. The honeycomb pattern represents bee colonies, a symbol of the natural beauty this animal creates and sustains. The installation will continue along the transit mall with two floral designs at Congress Center and Unitus Plaza.

In part with the festival, on Thursday June 9, experience the first ever Buzzworthy Beehive Contest from 11:30am-1:00pm. Local stylists from Rudy's, Transformations Salon, and more will attempt to construct the most impressive beehive hairstyle. Drew Carney of KGW will emcee the contest. The winner will be selected by audience applause and will be awarded the coveted Bees Knees Trophy!

Be sure to stop by on Friday June 10 for a visit with Mz. Bumble and Bonnie the Beekeeper! They will be buzzing around the Square handing out bee balloons during the noon hour while supplies last!

Enjoy free musical performances at noon by local school groups and organizations throughout Festival of Flowers. For a complete schedule, click here

Portland Parks Replacement Bond Renovations

In 2014, the Portland community voted to support the Parks Replacement Bond, a measure to issue up to $68 million in general obligation bonds. The money from the bonds will pay for the capital costs of repairs and improvements to existing park facilities. Bond outreach identified strong community support for prioritizing restoration of Pioneer Courthouse Square, the much loved City’s “living room”. The 2014 Parks Replacement Bond includes a not-to-exceed allocation of $10 million for all phases and costs associated with the renovation project at the Square.

Information about the upcoming Parks Replacement Bond renovations, including project background, overview, and schedule, can be found here. An Open House is planned for this Fall to share more information with the community.

Pioneer Courthouse Square is property of the City of Portland under the jurisdiction of the Department of Parks & Recreation. It is managed in partnership by Pioneer Courthouse Square, Inc. a 501(c)(3) organization.
Pioneer Courthouse Square event and performance emails are intended to keep Friends of the Square informed about upcoming Square events and activities.
