Above: TreeDee, a clever web app by Pawel S (@makenai). Import a Thingiverse model, and position it how you like. You can then view it in 3D with 3D glasses! The option to print and view is also available. I just love this quirky use of Thingiverse, don't you?

NASA using laser-powered 3D printing to build new rocket parts

"The process is being used to create parts for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS), a heavy-lift rocket that is slated to be used with the Orion capsule for an eventual mission to Mars. Selective laser melting, NASA says, can keep down costs and increase safety of the rocket parts."

A sandstone block built from lego, blending real objects with 3d prints

"By combining 3d scanning, 3d digital modelling, and 3d printing, it is possible to create amazing and surprising effects, objects that can seamlessly blend between reality and imagination. In this tutorial, I describe the process of making a full colour 3d printed object that seamlessly fits on to a real sandstone wall, producing the illusion that the wall is built from pieces of lego."

World’s First 3D Printing Photo Booth

"What’s being called the world’s first 3D printing photo booth is set to open for a limited time at the exhibition space EYE OF GYRE in Harajuku. From November 24 to January 14, 2013, people with reservations can go and have their portraits taken. Except, instead of a photograph, you’ll receive miniature replicas of yourselves."
